GAME NOTES: A portion of the championship round of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tip Off features the Richmond Spiders going up against the Fairfield Stags at Mohegan Sun Arena this afternoon.

Fairfield, which is just down the road from the venue, has lost four straight games since opening the 2013-14 campaign with a 67-54 victory over Sacred Heart. The latest loss came against third-ranked Louisville on Saturday afternoon by a score of 71-57.

Meanwhile, the Spiders kicked off the new campaign with four straight home dates at the Robins Center, taking three victories during the stretch. However, upon arrival in Connecticut on Saturday the team promptly bowed to nationally-ranked North Carolina, 82-72.

According to Richmond sources, the Spiders are a perfect 4-0 in matchups against Fairfield, the most recent victory taking place in 1991 when the team posted a 74-66 triumph at home.

The Spiders were dreaming big on Saturday as they led the Tar Heels by as many as nine points in the first half, but the team eventually suffered 17 turnovers and allowed UNC to make good on 50 percent behind the 3-point line. Cedrick Lindsay did all he could to keep Richmond competitive as he scored 29 points, while Kendall Anthony pitched in with 13 points off the bench, but no one else on the team converted more than three field goals in the meeting.

Lindsay, the leading scorer in three straight and all but one of the first five games for the Spiders, paces the group overall with his 21.0 ppg, although his 26.3 percent shooting beyond the arc is still lacking and it has helped bring the team down to a miserable 21.2 percent from long distance overall. Anthony pitches in with 12.2 ppg which means the duo accounts for close to half of the unit's 69.0 ppg at the moment.

Despite shooting only 7-of-24 (.292) from the field and 2-of-9 behind the 3- point line in the first half, the Stags somehow posted a five-point lead eight minutes into the meeting with mighty Louisville on Saturday, but eventually that awful accuracy led to a 37-23 deficit at the break and the 14-point loss overall. Maurice Barrow scored 14 points in 19 minutes off the bench, followed by Marcus Gilbert with 11 points.

Fairfield has now had a different leading scorer in four straight outings, so it only makes sense that there is just a single double-digit performer on the roster to this point in Gilbert. Shooting only 37.8 percent from the field and 28.6 percent on the perimeter, Gilbert puts up 11.6 ppg, while no one else is even averaging eight points per contest. As a result, the Stags are one of the lowest scoring teams in the nation with a mere 55.6 ppg.

The Stags may have played well for a portion of yesterday's game against Louisville, but the team's colors finally showed through in the end and the same will probably be the case on Sunday.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Richmond 69, Fairfield 57
