NCAA Game Summary - Michigan at Wisconsin

(Saturday, February 9th)

Final Score: Wisconsin 65, (3) Michigan 62 (OT)

Madison, WI (Sports Network) - Ben Brust tied the game with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer, then hit the game-winning shot in overtime as Wisconsin pulled off the upset with a 65-62 win over No. 3 Michigan on Saturday.

Brust finished with four 3-pointers as part of a 14-point game, while Jared Berggren added 13 points and eight rebounds and Sam Dekker had 12 points and five rebounds for the Badgers (17-7, 8-3 Big Ten), who have won three straight.

Trey Burke had 19 points and five rebounds while Tim Hardaway Jr. posted 18 points for the Wolverines (21-3, 8-3), who were coming off an overtime win against Ohio State on Tuesday.

Michigan had thought it put the nail in the coffin when Hardaway hit a 3- pointer with 2.4 ticks on the clock, but Brust put up a desperation shot from just past mid-court that hit nothing but net as the game went to overtime.

"We were trying to foul, that was the instruction coming out," said Michigan head coach John Beilein. "We had two fouls to give, go foul. (Ben Brust) turned the corner on Caris (LeVert) and he couldn't get it done in time."

The first four minutes of the extra session saw a bit of a scoring drought as each team made just one bucket, but Brust put his team ahead with a 3-ball from the right of the arc with 43 seconds showing.

"I still just try to take what the defense gives me, play to myself and to the team," said Brust. "Just looking for different cuts and open up different guys too. Just trying to help the team in any way I can."

Hardaway missed a jumper at the other end, but Ryan Evans missed a free throw with 13 seconds to play.

Michigan quickly got down the court and Burke let fly with a 3-pointer, but it rimmed out as time ran out and fans stormed the court.

An 8-0 run by the Badgers in the latter stages of the first half put the team up 23-14 after Evans put in a layup with under eight minutes to play, but the Wolverines closed the half with a 13-4 run to give the team a 29-28 lead at the break.

The largest advantage of the second half was when Hardaway put in a jumper to give Michigan a 55-49 advantage, but Dekker followed with a 3-pointer and it remained a one-possession game the rest of the way.
