GAME NOTES: Auburn will take on Campbell for the first-time ever when the Tigers host the Fighting Camels this evening at Auburn Arena as part of the 2010 Global Sports Hoops Showcase.

The Fighting Camels claimed their first victory of the season when they slipped past Middle Tennessee, 97-90 on Friday. It was a much needed win for Campbell, which started the year with back-to-back losses to Virginia Tech (70-60) and East Carolina (76-63).

The Tony Barbee era at Auburn has gotten off to a rocky start, as his Tigers have dropped their first two games of the season, and both losses have come at home. The most recent setback occurred Friday, as Auburn was upended by Samford, 79-68.

After sputtering through their first two games offensively, the Fighting Camels poured on the points against Middle Tennessee, en route to a seven- point win. Campbell shot a staggering 64.0 percent from the floor, and also drilled 8-of-13 three-point attempts and 25-of-36 shots from the charity stripe. Eric Griffin, who is leading the team with 16.0 ppg and 6.7 rpg, led five players in double-figures with 20 points. Lorne Merthie added 17 points and six rebounds off the bench, while Martell Jackson contributed 15 points in 19 minutes of action. Keishawn posted 14 points on a 7-of-8 effort from the field, while Preston Dodson chipped in 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

The Tigers were unable to post their first victory at Auburn Arena on Friday because Samford put forth a memorable offensive display, connecting on 18- of-33 three-point attempts, and Auburn was just not capable of overcoming the hot shooting Bulldogs. Coach Barbee's squad shot a mediocre 42.4 percent from the floor, and that included an 8-of-10 clip from long range, but clearly that was not good enough to keep up with Samford. Andre Malone, who posted 11 points in the opener, poured in 28 points against Samford, despite connecting on just 9-of-21 attempts from the field. Kenny Gabriel posted a double-double in the opener, but struggled against Samford, finishing with just eight points and seven rebounds.

Auburn has struggled to start the year, and unless the Tigers start finding ways to play better at both ends of the floor, it could be a long season. Campbell poured in 97 points against Middle Tennessee, but look for the Fighting Camels to come back down to earth against an Auburn team in desperate need of a victory.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Auburn 75, Campbell 73
