GAME NOTES: The Dartmouth Big Green and the St. John's Red Storm will step out of conference action on Saturday evening when the teams square off at Carnesecca Arena.

Dartmouth began its Ivy League schedule last Saturday with a road contest against Harvard, which it lost in blowout fashion, 61-45. The Big Green have now dropped three games in a row on the heels of a four-game winning streak to fall back to 7-7 on the season.

St. John's opened the season an impressive 9-3, but since entering Big East Conference play it has fallen flat, losing all five of its league games. The Red Storm most recently lost a double-overtime heartbreak at Carnesecca Arena to Providence on Thursday, 84-83, but they are still a solid 7-3 at home this season.

St. John's leads the all-time series with Dartmouth by a 9-3 count, which includes eight consecutive victories.

Although the Big Green only trailed Harvard by three at the half of their most recent game, they quickly lost control of the contest in the second stanza on their way to the 16-point setback. They shot a meager 37.8 percent from the field, including just 2-of-11 from 3-point range, and were also hindered by losing the turnover battle, 18-8. Gabas Maldunas shined despite the setback, scoring 23 points on 9-of-13 from the field, but none of his teammates were able to score more than six points.

Although Dartmouth has a modest record this season and has been on the down swing of late, it still shoots an impressive 47.6 percent from the field for 70.6 ppg, which is 8.1 ppg more than it allows. It also helps its cause with an outstanding +7.4 rebounding margin. Maldunas is one of the Ivy League's best forwards, tallying 11.6 ppg, 8.5 rpg and 2.0 bpg while shooting 54.7 percent from the field. Boehm (11.0 ppg, 5.7 rpg) is also a high-efficiency shooter (.584), while Mitola brings 10.6 ppg to the table.

After the Red Storm lost leads late in both regulation and the first overtime, they once again held an advantage with under a minute to play in the second extra session but fell victim to Providence's game-winning layup with just seven seconds left. They outshot the Friars in the game from the field, 42.5 percent to 36.9 percent, but they were just 1-of-10 from 3-point range and were outscored from the free-throw line, 30-20. Pacing six teammates in double figures was JaKarr Sampson with 16 points, while Phil Greene IV came off the bench to score 15. D'Angelo Harrison and Orlando Sanchez put up 14 and 12 points, respectively, while God'sgift Achiuwa and Sir'Dominic Pointer netted 11 points apiece.

St. John's shoots a modest 43.8 percent from the field this season and makes just 4.6 3-pointers per contest, but it is still able to boast a +4.9 scoring margin by holding opponents to a mere 40 percent shooting and consistently winning the takeaway battle (+2.6). Harrison has made less than 40 percent of his field-goal attempts on the campaign but has been outstanding from the free-throw line (96-of-114), resulting in a team-best 18.8 ppg. Sampson (11.9 ppg, 6.6 rpg) is the only other player in double figures, but four others net at least 6.6 ppg.

Dartmouth has been reeling of late, and it doesn't expect to see much relief heading on the road to play a much more talented Red Storm squad.
