GAME NOTES: The Manhattan Jaspers will try to sweep the season series with the Fairfield Stags when the two meet up for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tilt at Webster Bank Arena.

Manhattan cruised to an 83-57 home victory over the Stags two weekends ago, and the Jaspers lead the all-time series, 49-43.

Currently atop the MAAC standings is Manhattan with a 6-1 league record and 13-3 overall mark. The Jaspers have won 10 of their last 11 outings and are coming off Thursday's 90-68 rout over Siena. They have fared well outside of their own building this season with nine wins in 10 tries.

Meanwhile, the losses continue to pile up for last-place Fairfield, which remains winless through seven MAAC contests. The Stags were dealt their fifth consecutive loss on Thursday night as they fell at home to Niagara, 67-63.

The Jaspers simply smothered Siena on both ends of the floor a couple of nights ago. They were 8-of-20 from 3-point range (.400), made 32 free throws (.744) and forced 23 turnovers for the game. Granted, it was a sloppy effort by Siena, which committed 30 personal fouls and send the Jaspers to the charity stripe 29 times in the second half alone. Michael Alvarado (13.7 ppg) scored a game-high 21 points to pace four Jaspers in double figures. He stepped up in place of leading scorer and rebounder George Beamon (20.1 ppg, 6.6 rpg), who has missed the last two games with a sprained shoulder and is expected to be out 3-4 weeks.

Fairfield has lacked that same kind of scoring punch, as only Marcus Gilbert (13.2 ppg, 4.9 rpg) and Maurice Barrow (12.1 ppg, 5.1 rpg) are averaging double figures, and neither of those players is shooting better than 42 percent from the floor. The Stags are scoring only 61.5 ppg on average this season. They put forth one of their better defensive efforts of the season on Thursday night by holding Niagara's Antoine Mason, the nation's leading scorer, to just 15 points. It marked Mason's lowest scoring output of the year and was well off his average of 28 points. However, the Purple Eagles still shot 50 percent from the floor as a team and made 7-of-12 3-pointers as they pulled out the win thanks to a late run. Barrow led Fairfield with 17 points in the loss.

The Stags are coming off a solid showing in their last outing, but they'll be hard-pressed to keep pace in this one as the Jaspers are superior in virtually every category.
