Michigan routs Nebraska

Ann Arbor, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Glenn Robinson III tied a season-high with 23 points to lead the No. 10 Michigan Wolverines to a 79-50 thrashing of Nebraska on Wednesday.

Caris LeVert and Zak Irvin each tallied 16 points for the Wolverines (17-5, 9-1 Big-10), with the latter scoring all of his during a huge first half run that opened up the game.

"We came in so focused, and they didn't get many good looks," Michigan head coach John Beilein said.

Shavon Shields paced the Cornhuskers (11-10, 3-6), who fell to 1-9 this season in games on the road or on a neutral court. Walter Pitchford and Nathan Hawkins each netted 10 points in the setback.

"As soon as Michigan came out and made their barrage of 3s, it felt like we tried to match them," Nebraska head coach Tim Miles said. "You can't match Michigan."

Michigan has won six straight against Nebraska overall and all four contests since the Cornhuskers joined the Big-10 conference.

The Wolverines scored the first eight points of the game with LeVert hitting back-to-back 3s to cap the sequence.

Ray Gallegos opened the scoring for Nebraska with a 3, then Nik Stauskas answered with a trey before Derrick Walton Jr. converted a layup for a 10- point advantage.

Shields made a jumper with just under 12 minutes to play the cut the visitors deficit to 16-12.

Michigan proceeded to use a 29-3 surge to take full control of the contest.

Irvin, who was 6-for-7 from the field -- including 4-for-5 from deep -- knocked down three straight 3s before LeVert hit a pair of free throws to close the string.

Robinson made a pair of free throws to end the first half scoring and stake Michigan to a 49-21 halftime lead.

Michigan poured it on in the second half, leading by as many as 41 and the Cornhuskers scored the final nine points of the game to close out for the final margin.
