GAME NOTES: A pair of struggling teams from the Lone Star State get together on Saturday, as the UT-Arlington Mavericks visit the Texas State Bobcats in Sun Belt Conference action.

The Mavericks last took the court a week ago when they lost to Louisiana, 90-70.

Junior guard Lonnie McClanahan led the Mavericks with a career-high 27 points, as UT-Arlington fell behind early and never recovered. The Rajun' Cajuns broke the game open with an early 14-0 run, turning an 8-7 deficit to a 21-8 lead.

Senior forward Brandon Edwards, who averages 17.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game this season, was held to 10 points for the Mavericks, who have dropped three of four overall.

McClanahan has been hot of late in the absence of leading scorer Reger Dowell. He has led the team in scoring in three straight games, averaging 23 points over that span and setting new career-highs in his last two contests. His recent outburst has lifted his season average to 13.8 ppg, which is third-best on the team.

Dowell has been out of action the last two games, but continues to lead the high-scoring UT-Arlington attack with 22 ppg. It's unclear if he'll be back for this game. The Mavericks average 79.5 ppg, but their defense leaves a lot to be desired, as they allow 80.6 ppg.

Coincidently, Texas State also played Louisiana in it last contest this past Monday night, losing to the Cajuns in an 81-58 final.

Again, an early run helped Louisiana take control. The Cajuns used a 10-2 run to take control of the game, stretching its 8-6 lead all the way to 18-8. Louisiana hit five 3-pointers in the opening stanza, buiilding a 42-26 lead at halftime and cruising to the finish.

Joel Wright led the Bobcats with 17 points and 10 rebounds, as they lost for the fourth time in five outings. Emani Gant added 12 points for Texas State, which enters this game having lost three in a row at home.

Wright leads Texas State with 15.3 ppg and with 6.5 rpg. Gant (10.4) is the only other double-digit scorer for the Bobcats, who average only 63.4 ppg as a team.

While both squads come into this game struggling and tied for ninth in the 10- team Sun Belt Conference, UT-Arlington does bring more offense to the mix, and it should be enough to overcome its poor road record. The Mavericks have also won four straight and six of the last seven against the Bobcats.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: UT-Arlington 75, Texas State 65
