GAME NOTES: The Dartmouth Big Green will try to avoid an eight-game losing streak as they host the Cornell Big Red in an Ivy league showdown at Leede Arena on Saturday.

Cornell, with just two wins on the season, has lost four games in a row since its last victory. The Big Red fell on Friday night to Harvard, 72-47, in conference play. The Big Red dropped to a league-worst 1-10 in the Ivy standings Friday night, and will head up from Massachusetts to New Hampshire for the back-to-back road swing.

Dartmouth has dropped seven games in a row, and 12 of its last 14 games altogether. The last time Dartmouth defeated an opponent was back on Feb. 1 against Princeton. The Big Green were dropped on Friday night by Columbia, 84-72, which sunk them to 2-9 in the conference standings.

Cornell is Dartmouth's oldest rivalry, spanning back over 200 games. In the 207 games played, Cornell holds just a one-contest lead over Dartmouth, 104-103. The series was tied when the two teams met earlier this season, when the Big Red came away victorious, 70-67, which proved to be Cornell's last win to date.

Harvard nearly doubled up Cornell's point total at the end of the first half on Friday night, 34-18. That was all Harvard would need for the win, but the Crimson kept on increasing the lead into second half for insurance. Darryl Smith led the Big Red with 14 points in the loss, while Dwight Tarwater chipped in 10 points for Cornell. The Big Red shot 39.1 percent from the floor in the contest.

Nolan Cressler, who had just eight points against Harvard a night ago but has otherwise been a bright spot on the Big Red roster this season, leads the team in scoring with 16.6 ppg. Devin Cherry is the only other Cornell player averaging a scoring total in double figures for the year, netting 11.9 ppg with a team-best 83 assists. Tarwater, who nets just 6.3 ppg, leads the team in rebounding at 5.6 rpg.

Columbia held just a three-point lead over Dartmouth at the end of the first half on Friday night in the Ivy League clash, but the Big Green couldn't do anything to stop a potent Lions attack. Columbia shot 59.5 percent from the floor in the entire game, including 65 percent in the second half which helped the Lions separate themselves for the win. Tyler Melville netted 19 points to pace Dartmouth, while Connor Boehm chipped in with 17 points in the loss. Brandon McDonnell and Alex Mitola each contributed 10 points in the contest for the Big Green.

The Big Green have been missing their leading scorer, Gabas Maldunas, since the end of January thanks to knee surgery, so a major component of Dartmouth's offense has disappeared. Boehm is the team's active leading scorer with 10.6 ppg, and Mitola checks in at second with a 10.2 ppg average. Boehm is the team's active leading rebounder at 5.4 rpg, and Mitola tops the Big Green in assists with 65 helpers on the year. Dartmouth as a unit is averaging 67 ppg and giving up 66.3 ppg to its opposition.

Cornell was able to take down Dartmouth the last time out in Ithaca, and the Big Green have struggled even worse than Cornell in the past month of the season. But to get an opponents like Cornell, with just two wins on the year, at home is the perfect opportunity to end the cold spell.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Dartmouth 69, Cornell 62
