GAME NOTES: The Dayton Flyers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets both put their early-season unbeaten marks on the line in a non-conference matchup at McCamish Pavilion on Wednesday night.

Dayton opened up the season with a three-game homestand and came away with victories over IUPU-Fort Wayne (81-80), Saint Francis-PA (70-56) and St. Francis Brooklyn (78-58). It has been a promising start for the Flyers, who went a modest 17-14 (7-9 in the Atlantic 10) last season as they failed to make a postseason tournament for the first time since 2007.

Georgia Tech is off to its second 3-0 start in the last three seasons after it dismissed Presbyterian (88-57) and Delaware State (68-50) at home before claiming a strong road win at rival Georgia last Friday, 80-71. This matchup is the beginning of a three-game homestand for the Yellow Jackets, who will play eight of their first 11 games at McCamish Pavilion.

The Flyers have won both previous meetings versus Georgia Tech, most recently claiming a 63-59 victory in the 2009 Puerto Rico Classic.

Dayton had an impressive shooting night the last time out against St. Francis Brooklyn, both from the field (25-of-49) and the foul line (24-of-30), and also earned extra possessions by forcing 21 turnovers in the 20-point triumph. Pacing four teammates in double figures was Vee Sanford, who scored 14 points off the bench. Khari Price and Jordan Sibert netted 13 points apiece, Matt Kavanaugh had 10 points, and Devin Oliver (nine points, six rebounds, five assists, two steals, one blocks) had a noteworthy performance as well.

The Flyers are pouring in 76.3 points per game, nearly 12 points more than they allow to their opponents, and they have been outstanding in limited opportunities from 3-point range (14-of-29). Dyshawn Pierre (15.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg), Price (14.7 ppg) and Sibert (11.7 ppg) have all drained at least 60 percent of their field goal attempts, while Oliver (10.7 ppg) rips downs a team-high 8.7 rebounds per game.

Although it was nip and tuck throughout the first half between Georgia Tech and Georgia, the Yellow Jackets pulled away early in the second stanza with a 12-2 run and never looked back. Despite shooting less than 39 percent from the field, the Ramblin' Wreck used a strong showing at the foul line (24-of-31) and on the glass (49 rebounds) to lift them to victory. Trae Golden scored 18 points, a season-high with his new squad after transferring from Tennessee. Daniel Miller (14 points, 13 rebounds) and Kammeon Holsey (10 points, 12 rebounds) both tallied double-doubles, while Marcus Georges-Hunt added 11 points in the winning effort.

Georgia Tech has shot the ball well here in the early going, making 47 percent of its field goal attempts for 78.7 points per game, but the real story has been its play at the defensive end, as it holds opponents to just 35.4 percent shooting and 59.3 points per game. Golden (15.3 ppg) has shot 16-of-30 from the floor, while Georges-Hunt (13.3 ppg), Miller (11.3 ppg), Hosley (9.0 ppg) and Robert Carter, Jr. (9.0 ppg) have all corralled at least seven rebounds per contest.

Although both teams have been impressive during the first few weeks of the season, Georgia Tech has been borderline dominant, and on its home floor, it should be able to out-muscle the Flyers en route to a 4-0 start.
