GAME NOTES: The Charleston Classic soldiers on with the consolation bracket on Friday evening, as the Georgia Bulldogs and the Temple Owls face off at TD Arena.

The winner will play either Nebraska or UAB in Sunday's fifth-place game, while the losers will square off in the seventh-place game.

Both the Owls and the Bulldogs have beaten each other once before, with Temple winning in November of 2010 in the last encounter, 65-58.

Georgia won its season opener at home versus Wofford (72-52), but since then it has dropped back-to-back games, including its opening-round matchup with Davidson on Thursday night, 94-82. The Bulldogs dug themselves a 10-point hole at intermission that they could not climb out of, and even though they shot an impressive 55.8 percent from the field on the evening, they lost out on several possessions by committing 16 turnovers (compared to just five for Davidson). They were also in foul trouble all night, which resulted in a 34- of-41 showing from the free-throw line for Davidson. Nemanja Djurisic came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 19 points, doing most of his damage from 3-point range (4-of-6). Charles Mann netted 18 points, Kenny Gaines drained 9-of-10 from the foul line en route to 13 points, and Cameron Forte added 10 points in the losing effort.

Since winning its opener over Penn (78-73), Temple has dropped three straight contests to dip to 1-3 on the season, including an opening-round loss to Clemson, 72-58. It was a tight, back-and-forth battle for most of the matchup, but after a Will Cummings layup tied to game at 51 with 9:11 remaining, Clemson closed it out on a 21-7 run. The Owls were done in by a dreadful night shooting, as they drained just 30.2 percent of their field goal tries, and they were even worse from 3-point range (4-of-20). Cummings was solid in the setback, scoring 22 points on 8-of-18 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the free- throw line. Quenton DeCosey poured in 15 points, but he was off the mark with his field goal attempts (4-of-14).

Despite outshooting its opponents from the field, 45.6 percent to 40.6 percent, Georgia actually scores fewer points per game (75.0) than it allows (75.3) largely due to its aforementioned turnover problem (-3.7 turnover margin). It has also been inefficient from 3-point range, going just 13-of-43 (.302). Mann is the catalyst with 16.3 points and 3.3 assists per game. Djurisic contributes 13.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, and while Gaines puts up 12.0 points per contest, he does so on a lackluster percentage from the floor (.346).

The Owls' season has not gotten off to the start they have hoped for, as they are shooting just 40.2 percent from the field while sitting in the red with their scoring (-4.8), rebounding (-1.0) and turnover (-1.7) margins. Cummings is off to a strong start with 18.8 points and 4.8 assists per game, although he is shooting just 4-of-15 from 3-point range and has committed 16 turnovers, which is more than twice as many as any of his teammates. DeCosey (13.8 ppg), Anthony Lee (13.5 ppg, 10.5 rpg) and Dalton Pepper (12.5 ppg) have all been solid as well, but no other player averages more than 5.5 points per tilt.

Neither team looked very good in the opening round and both will be attempting to salvage their weekend with a win in this bout. Figure Temple to straighten out its shooting woes as it takes down a less talented Georgia squad.
