GAME NOTES: The Maryland Terrapins continue a five-game homestand, as they take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in a non-conference matchup at the Comcast Center on Sunday evening.

Mark Turgeon's Terrapins have split the first two games on the homestand, opening up with a 66-62 win over Florida Atlantic, before falling to Boston University last time out, 83-77. The loss to the Terriers dropped Maryland to a middling 7-5 on the year and just 3-2 at home.

Danny Manning's Golden Hurricane are still in search of their first true road win of the season. Tulsa fell to 0-4 in such games with a 70-58 setback at TCU last weekend. The loss leaves Tulsa four games under .500 on the year at 4-8.

Maryland won the only previous meeting with Tulsa, a 66-59 decision in the 1964 Hurricane Classic in Miami.

Tulsa got off to a decent start at TCU and actually held a seven-point lead at intermission (36-29). However, the Golden Hurricane fell apart in the second half, converting just 30.4 percent from the floor, while the Horned Frogs capitalized on their strong 54.5 percent effort after the break to earn the win. James Woodard led the way in the loss for Tulsa, posting a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Rashad Smith had a strong game got to waste as well, tallying 12 points, sic rebounds and five assists.

The offensive numbers have been mediocre at best for Tulsa, leading to the team's horrible record. The Golden Hurricane are averaging 72.1 ppg, but are allowing 75.1. The 6-foot-3 Woodard is shooting just .395 from the field this season, but leads the team in both scoring (13.8 ppg) and rebounding (6.3 rpg). The 6-foot-7 Smith (12.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg) ranks second in both categories and is shooting a much better .509 from the floor overall.

Maryland has also suffered from inconsistent play at the offensive end, putting up a modest 73.8 ppg, despite shooting .451 from the field. The team does enjoy positive margins in both rebounding (+6.7) and turnovers (+0.3). Three of the team's five starters are averaging double figures in scoring, led by junior guard Dez Wells and his 15.5 ppg. Forward Jake Layman is a close second in the scoring column at 14.9 ppg, while fellow forward Evan Smotrycz adds 12.5 ppg and is tops on the team in rebounding at 7.3 caroms per game.

The Terrapins overcame a 10-point deficit, but then allowed Boston to go on a 13-3 run down the stretch to earn the win in College Park last weekend. Wells led the way with a near double-double, posting 18 points and nine rebounds in the loss. Smotrycz did complete the act with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Layman and Nick Faust added 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Tulsa has struggled on the road this season and will continue to do so against a Maryland team gearing up for ACC play.
