NCAA Game Summary - Oklahoma at Kansas State

(Tuesday, January 14th)

Final Score: Kansas State 72, (25) Oklahoma 66

Manhattan, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Marcus Foster snapped a tie with a 3- pointer late in regulation, the last of his team-high 18 points, and Kansas State knocked off No. 25 Oklahoma, 72-66, at Bramlage Coliseum.

Shane Southwell totaled 16 with eight rebounds and Wesley Iwundu added 11 points for the Wildcats (13-4, 3-1 Big 12), who recovered from a loss to rival Kansas and won for the 11th time in their last 12 outings.

Ryan Spangler's game-best double-double of 21 points and 14 boards wasn't enough for the Sooners (13-4, 2-2), who have dropped three of five after winning seven straight.

Buddy Hield posted 12 points and five assists in the setback, one which is likely to drop Oklahoma out of the rankings entirely.

"I thought we had some decent looks that we did not convert," Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger said of his team in crunch time. "There are just possessions that you have to convert. You cannot do that down the stretch on the road."

Foster's shot from beyond the arc gave Kansas State a 66-63 margin with 2:23 on the clock, and Je'lon Hornbeak made 1-of-2 free throws two possessions later. Cameron Clark missed a potential go-ahead trey, but Hornbeak fouled Southwell, who missed the front end of a 1-and-1.

Spangler then fouled Thomas Gipson, and his free shot put the hosts up three with 45 seconds left. Nino Williams then hit four in a row from the charity stripe to open up a seven-point spread less than 30 seconds later and Oklahoma couldn't overcome the difference.

"I told the team OU is a team of runs but we were fortunate enough to make the run at the end of the game and find a way to win," Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber said. "That is what you have to do to find a win in this conference."

Oklahoma led 14-8 early on thanks to two triples from Hield, but KSU rallied with a burst to go up 23-17 just after the eight-minute mark on a trey from Iwundu.

The Sooners struck back to tie 33-33, with 4:22 left in the half on a Frank Booker make from distance, and three free throws by Will Spradling sent Oklahoma to the break up 39-38.

A Jevon Thomas free throw gave the Wildcats a 47-42 edge less than five minutes into the second half, but D.J. Bennett's tip-in pulled the Sooners even at 51-all.

Spangler's two from the line with 5:37 on the clock sent the Sooners ahead 62-56, then Iwundu, Foster and Gipson responded for the Wildcats to make it a 63-all tie with 2:59 to play.

Game Notes

Kansas State has won three in a row and seven of its last 10 matchups against Oklahoma since March of 2007 ... The Sooners shot 7-of-23 from beyond the arc and the Wildcats made good on 11 of their 21 tries ... KSU claimed a slim 42-38 edge on the glass, with a 29-19 edge on the defensive boards.
