GAME NOTES: Fresh of their first win of the season the Weber State Wildcats will face off with the Texas-Arlington Mavericks in a non-conference affair at the College Park Center.

After being shut down in their first three games, the Wildcats finally got in the win column last Saturday with a 72-55 triumph over San Jose State. The win came during the second part of a two-game homestand for the Wildcats, who split those contests while losing both road tests on the campaign. Weber State takes on Utah Valley next.

Texas-Arlington put an end to an even longer losing streak in its last outing. The Mavericks had suffered through five straight setbacks before their 81-53 rout of Dallas Baptist to kick off this short two-game homestand. Next up the Mavericks face Houston Baptist and Oklahoma in consecutive road battles.

A year ago Weber State was able to escape with a 72-70 victory over Texas- Arlington during the first-ever meeting between the programs.

In the win over San Jose State the Wildcats nearly lost control as a 10-point lead in the second half turned into a 45-42 deficit with 11 minutes to play. However, Weber State went on a 16-0 run from there to regain control and coast to the victory. Davion Berry scored a game-high 20 points, including nine during that decisive run.

Berry (19 ppg, 3.5 apg) has ben carrying the offensive load for the Wildcats all season. The combination guard/forward has scored at least 20 points in three of four games and is knocking down 44 percent of his shots from the field and 34.8 percent from 3-point range. Berry gets the most help from Jeremy Senglin (!2.2 ppg) and Kyle Tresnak (12.2 ppg, 4.5 rpg). Tresnak is shooting the better percentage from the field (.588), but Senglin is the only player other than Berry to be playing more than 30 minutes per game. Joel Bolomboy (8.8 ppg, 9.2 rpg) keeps the Wildcats competitive on the boards.

Rebounding and defense keyed the Mavericks to their third win of the year. Texas-Arlington had a 54-32 edge on the glass over Dallas Baptist and also held their opponent to just 29.3 percent shooting. Brandon Edwards finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while also blocking four shots.

It would stand to reason that a team scoring more than 80 points per game would own more separation on the scoreboard but that is not the case for Texas-Arlington. The Mavericks have a slim +0.7 scoring differential on the season while netting 44.7 percent of their field-goal attempts. Edwards (18.4 ppg, 10.6 rpg) has been churning out double-doubles at an impressive rate, with six on the season. Reger Dowell (22.7 ppg) gets the majority of the shots for the offense. Lonnie McClanahan (10.7 ppg, 4 apg) and Jamel Outler (10 ppg) will also get in the mix.

There is much more balance to the Mavericks' attack but Dowell is the key in this one.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Texas-Arlington 76, Weber State 68
