GAME NOTES: First-round action of the 2013 Puerto Rico Tip-Off takes place on Thursday, with one of the matchups featuring the Georgetown Hoyas against the Northeastern Huskies.

The winner of this game will take on either Charlotte or Kansas State in second-round action on Friday.

John Thompson III's Hoyas have split the first two games of their 2013-14 campaign, opening the season with a hard-fought loss to nationally-ranked Oregon in South Korea (82-75) before returning home to the nation's capital and routing Wright State (88-70). Georgetown has been idle since the victory over the Raiders more than a week ago but will make up for lost time with three games in a four-day span as part of this event.

Bill Coen's Huskies have started their season off slowly. Northeastern opened the year with back-to-back losses to Boston University (72-69) and Stony Brook (73-66), but landed in the win column last time out, knocking off Central Connecticut State (83-69) at the Cabot Center.

This marks just the second all-time meeting between these two teams. Georgetown won the only other matchup, an 85-66 decision at home in 1979.

The Huskies have shot the ball fairly well in the early stages of the season, converting 46 percent from the floor, while posting 72.7 ppg. The team has also enjoyed a +5.3 rebounding margin, but has been hampered by a -3.7 turnover margin, averaging 15.7 miscues per game. The team has been led thus far by the interior play of 6-7 forward Scott Eatherton, who paces the squad in both scoring (14.0 ppg) and rebounding (10.0 rpg) and is shooting a scorching .594 from the field. Zach Stahl has also been highly efficient at .583 shooting and comes off the bench to add 12.0 ppg. Guards David Walker and Demetrius Pollard round out the top scoring threats with 11.7 and 10.0 ppg, respectively.

Pollard was on fire in the Huskies' win over CCSU, as he set a school-record with eight 3-pointers en route to a career-high 27 points. Stahl poured in 15 points in support, while Walker finished with 14. Northeastern shot a solid 50.9 percent from the field, fueled by a 10-of-19 effort from long range (.526).

The Hoyas had a strong offensive game, shooting 50 percent from the floor, while draining 10 3-pointers in a 18-point victory over Wright State. Guards D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera and Markel Smith were the driving forces in the win, combining for 48 points. Smith-Rivera was 8-of-12 from the floor and finished with 25 points, while Starks, who hit 7-of-14 from the field, poured in 23, while doling out six assists.

The Hoyas went toe-to-toe with the explosive Ducks in the season opener, proving that scoring shouldn't be a problem this season. Georgetown is averaging 81.5 ppg through two games, led by the exploits of Starks (19.5 ppg). Mammoth center Joshua Smith (6-10, 350) put up 25 points in the opener but just six against the Raiders and as a result, ranks second on the team at 15.5 ppg. Smith-Rivera (15.0 ppg) gives the team another scoring threat along the perimeter and should team with Starks for a potent one-two punch throughout the season.

Eatherton may have a tough time posting another double-double with Georgetown's size inside. Without that kind of production, Northeastern will find itself saddled with another loss, as Georgetown moves on.
