GAME NOTES: The Penn Quakers settle into The Palestra for the final game of a four-game homestand tonight, as they host the Yale Bulldogs in Ivy League action.

Devastated by injuries and a loss of numerous players for undisclosed reasons, the 2013-14 campaign has been a huge grind for the Quakers. The team has lost four of the last five outings after bowing to Brown on Friday night in a 76-67 final at home. The Quakers are currently 4-6 in league play, which means they are tied with Princeton for fifth place among the Ancient Eight.

As for the Bulldogs, they had been keeping up with Harvard at the top of the league standings, but the team has bowed in two straight outings and is now all alone in second place in the standings with a record of 8-3. Last night saw Yale score just 46 points for the second time in as many games, as it fell to Princeton on the road by 11 points.

Yale posted a 69-54 win in the first meeting of the season with the Quakers in New Haven on Valentine's Day, which means the all-time series now numbers 146-73 in favor of Penn.

Justin Sears jumped up with 22 points and nine rebounds, shooting 8-of-12 from the floor for the Bulldogs last night at Jadwin Gym, but it wasn't nearly enough as the Yale offense was again shut down. Javier Duren pitched in with 13 points, five boards, four assists, and three steals, but his teammates didn't do nearly enough to turn the tide for a team which shot a mere 29.4 percent from the floor and 2-of-12 behind the 3-point line, all while posting more turnovers (16) than field goals (15).

On a team generating 67.0 ppg, just 1.0 ppg more than the competition, Sears stands as the top scoring option for the Bulldogs with his 16.0 ppg as he converts 49.3 percent of his field goal tries. Duren steps up with another 12.7 ppg, but his accuracy from the floor could use a boost down the stretch as he hit just 37.1 percent of his chances.

Tony Hicks erupted for 25 points and six rebounds in the meeting with Brown last night, but he shot only 2-of-10 behind the 3-point line, bringing the entire Penn team down to only 26.3 percent on the perimeter during their nine- point loss at home. Fran Dougherty logged a double-double for the hosts with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Miles Cartwright tallied 11 points, but he shot only 4-of-13 from the floor and was charged with five of the program's 16 turnovers on the night.

In conference play this season the Quakers are being outscored by an average of 6.3 ppg, and yet the squad is shooting a solid 48.2 percent from the floor compared to only 43.6 percent for the rest of the league. The big difference lies behind the 3-point line where those other Ivy schools are making an average of 6.2 per contest, compared to a mere 3.0 for Penn. Hicks is responsible for 16.7 ppg and Dougherty another 13.7 ppg, but between them they have converted just 6-of-41 on the outside.

Even though the Quakers will have the support of the crowd on their side, the team has simply had too many hits to the roster to keep up with a squad like Yale that has already proven it can defeat Penn.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Yale 69, Penn 64
