GAME NOTES: The Western Carolina Catamounts look to continue their winning ways when they travel to face the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Thursday in Southern Conference action.

The Catamounts have won three of their last four outings after escaping UNC Greensboro with an 82-77 overtime win on Sunday. Brandon Boggs scored 25 points and James Sinclair added 14 points for Western Carolina, which improved to 8-4 in SoCon play. Trey Sumler and Tom Tankelewicz added 13 points apiece, as the Catamounts took control late in the OT. With the game tied at 77 with 1:13 left, Boggs hit a runner to put the team up for good.

Sumler leads the Catamounts and is among the SoCon leaders with 17.8 ppg this season. Boggs (11.7) and Sinclair round out the double-digit scorers for Western Carolina, which averages 73.9 ppg on 42 percent shooting this season.

Appalachian State, meanwhile, comes in having lost four its last six games, including Saturday's 64-58 setback to Wofford. The Mountaineers shot 63.6 percent in the first half against the Terriers and built a 36-31 halftime lead, but Wofford held Appalachian to just 5-of-15 in the second half en route to the win. Tevin Baskin led Appalachian State with 13 points off the bench, while Tab Hamilton finished with 12 and Tommy Spagnolo scored 10 to go along with five rebounds.

Hamilton leads the Mountaineers with 13.6 ppg. Neal adds 10.1 ppg for Appalachian State, which averages 70.3 ppg.

This is the second meeting of the season between the Catamounts and Mountaineers. On Feb. 8, Sumler led all scorers with 25 points, as Western Carolina outlasted Appalachian State in overtime, 84-75. Brandon Boggs provided a spark off the bench with 15 points for the Catamounts. Tommy Spagnolo led the way with 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Mountaineers.

This game has a chance to turn out differently, if the Mountaineers can play better defensively. Western Carolina isn't the same team at home as they are on the road, playing much better as the host (7-6 this season). Western Carolina, however, has been playing well recently, and if it is going to win a road game, this is one it should win.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Western Carolina 72, Appalachian State 68
