NCAA Game Summary - Duke at Florida State

(Saturday, February 2nd)

Final Score: (5) Duke 79, Florida State 60

Tallahassee, FL (Sports Network) - Seth Curry poured in 21 points and connected on 5-of-7 from 3-point range and Quinn Cook added 18 points and six assists as fifth-ranked Duke cruised to a 79-60 road victory Saturday over Florida State at Donald L. Tucker Center.

Rasheed Sulaimon and Amile Jefferson scored 14 and 11 points, respectively, for the Blue Devils (19-2, 6-2 ACC), who shot 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from behind the arc en route to winning their third straight following a tough road loss at Miami-Florida on Jan. 23.

"Our guys played a terrific basketball game," Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "It's tough to single out any one guy."

Aaron Thomas scored 14 points and Devon Bookert added nine for the Seminoles (12-9, 4-4), who have lost four of their last six games.

Duke scored the first 11 points of the contest just 3 1/2 minutes in, while Florida State missed its first four shots. The lead stretched to 18-2 on Cook's layup with 14:15 left in the first half.

Florida State's woes continued as Curry nailed two free throws with three minutes remaining to make it 38-12. Josh Hairston's dunk with 10 seconds left before the break capped off the visitors stellar first half, as they went up 42-22.

After 20 minutes of play, the Seminoles shot a mere 28.6 percent (8-of-28) from the floor, including 1-of-10 from 3-point range, while Duke shot lights out, 62.1 percent.

"We wanted to throw the first punch today and send a statement," Cook said. "We have great shooters on our team."

Sulaimon's second 3-pointer and Duke's ninth of the game, kept the pressure on FSU and made it 65-41 as the contest neared the midway point of the second half.

"It was raining threes," Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton said. "They were able to put themselves at that magic level that has been elusive to us."

The Blue Devils stifled Florida State's top scorer, Michael Snaer, all game long, as he didn't find the scoreboard until the second half. Snaer, who nailed a game-winning 3-pointer as time expired last season at Duke which snapped a 45-game home win streak, finished with just seven points on 3-of-13 shooting.

Duke led by as many as 26 and put the nail in the coffin after Curry's trey with 8 1/2 minutes left made it 70-45, and easily hung on for the victory from there.

Game Notes

Duke has a 32-9 lead in the all-time series with Florida State and is now 14-6 against the Seminoles in Tallahassee ... Mason Plumlee added eight points and five boards in the win ... FSU outscored Duke's bench 37-7, but shot 41.8 percent from the floor ... The Blue Devils next play host to N.C. State on Feb. 7 ... FSU hits the road to face Georgia Tech on Feb. 5.
