Kent State shot 48 percent from the field in the first half, connecting on 6- of-8 from 3-point range. Ohio struggled mightily to start the game, making just 20.7 percent of its field goal tries, including just 2-of-11 from beyond the arc. A 17-0 run early in the first gave Kent State a double-digit lead and the Golden Flashes led comfortably at the break, 36-24.

After the intermission, Kent State continued to knock down its shots at an impressive rate, hitting on 50 percent from the field, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Despite also shooting 50 percent from the floor, Ohio was not as effective from deep, making just 3-of-10 from 3-point distance after halftime. The Bobcats got no closer than eight points in the second period, as the Golden Flashes were able to hold them at bay and go home with the victory.

Kent State owned the glass, outrebounding Ohio, 41-30. The Bobcats did have some success taking advantage of mistakes by the Golden Flashes, forcing 19 turnovers and converting them into 19 points.
