GAME NOTES: Hoping to continue their winning ways, the Manhattan Jaspers travel to the Garden State to take on the Rider Broncs in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Alumni Gym on Thursday night.

Manhattan enters play on a three-game win streak. The Jaspers edged Niagara on the road last Sunday, 78-77.

The Broncs come into this game moving in the opposite direction, having dropped their last two, including at Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon, 82-61.

Rider leads the all-time series with Manhattan, 22-20. The Jaspers and Broncs have split the season series each of the last two years with each team winning on the road. However, this season, Manhattan picked up a win at home to end that streak, beating Rider on Jan. 24, 67-51. Manhattan held the Broncs to a meager 27.1 percent shooting from the field in the win.

Rhamel Brown scored 22 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked six shots as the Jaspers slipped past the Niagara Purple Eagles last weekend. George Beamon scored 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the floor for Manhattan while RaShawn Stores chipped in 10 points and four rebounds in the win. A missed layup opportunity by Niagara with one second remaining gave Manhattan the victory.

Beamon continues to be the main focus of the offense for the Jaspers with his 19.0 ppg, while adding a team-high 6.8 rpg as well. Michael Alvarado contributes another 13.1 ppg and, while he may be shooting only 27.6 percent behind the 3-point line, he balances that with a team-best 97 assists and 37 steals. Brown has swatted away an astounding 86 shots, tops in the league by a wide margin. As a collective unit, the Jaspers are putting up 77.6 ppg and giving up 71.2 ppg, both good for fourth in the MAAC.

In the Broncs' loss to Quinnipiac last Saturday, Daniel Stewart led the way with 15 points, followed by Jimmie Taylor with 12 and Khalil Alford with 10. Quinnipiac knocked down five first-half 3-pointers and held a 22-15 rebounding advantage in the opening frame, as it took a 34-27 lead into the break. The Broncs were outscored by the Bobcats by a 16-2 margin at the foul line over the final 20 minutes.

The main weapon for the Broncs has been their shooting from beyond the arc. They are second in the MAAC in connecting on 40.8 percent from 3-point range. Taylor (.460) is also second in the conference in that category. The Broncs are first in free-throw percentage (.737). Anthony Myles (17.0 ppg), Stewart (15.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg) and Taylor (11.1 ppg) lead the way offensively for the Broncs, who average 75.0 ppg and give up 76.0 ppg.

The Broncs are a potent team out on the perimeter, but they have a suspect defense and are hosting a Manhattan team that can score. Expect the visitors to extend their win streak.
