NCAA Game Summary - Youngstown State at Cleveland State

(Tuesday, February 25th)

Final Score: Cleveland State 70, Youngstown State 69 (OT)

Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Bryn Forbes led the way with 15 points, as the Cleveland State Vikings outlasted the Youngstown State Penguins in overtime, 70-69, in a Horizon League clash at the Wolstein Center.

Winners of nine of their last 10, the Vikings (20-10, 11-4 HL) were helped by Anton Grady with 14 points and Trey Lewis and Charlie Lee who each finished with 10.

Kendrick Perry and Ryan Weber each scored 17 points for the Penguins (15-15, 6-9), while Kamren Belin added 16 points and Bobby Hain chipped in with a double-double of 10 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.

Cleveland State shot 44.8 percent from the field in the first half but missed all but one of its eight tries from 3-point range, as the Vikings took a slim lead at the break, 30-29. Despite making just 36.7 percent of its field goal tries in the half, Youngstown State stayed close by knocking down 5-of-12 from beyond the arc in the opening period.

The Vikings shot 34.6 percent from the field and 4-of-8 from 3-point range while the Penguins hit a nearly identical 35.3 percent and 5-of-12 from 3- point distance in the second half. Neither team scored in the final 2:54 of regulation, as each missed several opportunities to win the game, so the meeting went into overtime knotted at 60-60.

In the extra session the Vikings went ahead for good on a pair of Lewis free- throws in the final minute. Perry had a chance to win the game, but his jumper at the buzzer was off the mark as the Vikings held on for the victory.

The hosts had the edge in points in the paint, 34-22. They also had a sizable advantage at the free-throw line, outscoring the Penguins 19-6.
