GAME NOTES: The Cal State Fullerton Titans try to put an end to a three-game slide today, as they clash with the Miami-Florida Hurricanes in the second round of the 2013 Wooden Legacy.

On Thursday, the Titans kicked off the event with a disappointing 86-66 loss to nationally-ranked Marquette, following defeats at the hands of both USC and San Jose State on the road last week.

As for the Hurricanes, a team which was 29-7 overall a year ago, they already have their third loss of 2013-14 after bowing to George Washington in overtime on Thursday in a 71-63 final. The setback was the second in a row for the 'Canes.

This is the first-ever meeting between the teams according to Miami sources.

Miami made it to overtime against the Colonials on Thanksgiving despite shooting only 9-of-25 from the floor in the second half of their meeting. Unfortunately, the team's inept effort carried over into the bonus session as they converted a mere 1-of-8 from the field and missed all five chances behind the 3-point line. Garrius Adams finished with 17 points and five assists for Miami, followed by Rion Brown and his 16 points and nine boards, but between them they shot only 8-of-25 from the field.

James Kelly chipped in 11 points and six rebounds off the bench for the Hurricanes on Thursday, while Donnavan Kirk tied for the game high with 11 rebounds and paced both programs with four blocked shots.

Although he is just a 36.1 percent shooter overall who is a mere 22.2 percent accurate beyond the arc, Brown is still the leading scorer for the Hurricanes with 13.5 ppg. He is also first in assists (18) and second on the glass (7.5 rpg) and tries to make up for his poor shooting with 23-of-25 (.920) at the free-throw line. Adams (13.0 ppg) and Kirk (11.7 ppg) help out on the offensive end, the latter also pacing the group with 8.0 rpg and 15 rejections.

The Titans allowed Marquette to knock down 55.7 percent from the floor on Thursday, including 7-of-16 shots beyond the arc, more than enough to bury the hosts by 20 points. A major factor in the meeting took place in the paint where the Golden Eagles doubled-up on Fullerton with a rebounding advantage of 40-20, limiting the Titans to just five at the offensive end of the floor.

Michael Williams produced a team-best 16 points for the Titans, shooting only 5-of-14 from the field, followed by Marquis Horne and Josh Gentry with 13 and 11 points, respectively, in the setback.

Alex Harris is listed as the top scorer for the Titans with his 17.7 ppg, but he has played in only three of the team's six games and is currently out of action due to an ankle injury. With Harris on the sidelines, that leaves Williams (14.0 ppg) and Horne (11.0 ppg) as the only active double-digit scorers for Fullerton, a team which is producing 71.3 ppg but at the same time allowing 74.3 ppg.

Without Harris the Titans are at a huge disadvantage. Playing at home should give them a lift, but not quite enough to get them over the top against Miami.
