Norfolk, VA (Sports Network) - Albert Thomas scored 21 points, leading four starters in double figures, as the Delaware State Hornets stung the Howard Bison, 73-61, in the opening round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament at Norfolk Scope Arena.

Marques Oliver produced a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the sixth-seeded Hornets (14-17), while Tahj Tate and Casey Walker responded with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

The 11th-seeded Bison (7-24) were paced by Calvin Thompson who scored a game- high 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor, followed by Mike Phillips with 18 points and Anton Dickerson with 11 and nine boards in the setback.

Delaware State scored the first points of the night and never looked back, holding the Bison to a mere eight field goals through the first 20 minutes of action in order to claim a 32-20 advantage at the break.

In the second half the Hornets made good on an impressive 51.9 percent from the floor and led by as many as 19 with less than two minutes left before settling in with the 12-point triumph.

With the victory the Hornets, who held Howard to 5-of-16 shooting beyond the arc on the night, now move to the quarterfinals on Wednesday to do battle with third-seeded Hampton.
