NCAA Game Summary - Nebraska vs. Baylor

(Friday, March 21st)

Final Score: Baylor 74, Nebraska 60

San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Cory Jefferson had 16 points and the sixth-seeded Baylor Bears cruised past the 11th-seeded Nebraska Cornhuskers, 74-60, in a battle between former Big 12 foes in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Isaiah Austin added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Bears (25-11), who missed the tournament last season after reaching the Elite Eight in 2012. Brady Heslip and Rico Gathers tallied 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Baylor, which went 38-for-48 from the foul line, will play third-seeded Creighton in the third round on Sunday. The Bluejays beat 14th-seeded Louisiana, 76-66, on Friday.

"We're making sure everybody follows through on their free throws and making sure everybody focuses when it's time to shoot free throws in practice, and carry it over into the game," Jefferson said.

Terran Petteway ended with 18 points but went 0-for-7 from beyond the arc for the Cornhuskers (19-13), who fell to 0-7 in NCAA Tournament action. Shavon Shields and Ray Gallegos had 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Nebraska coach Tim Miles was ejected after getting whistled for two technical fouls in the second half.

"Well, first of all, I'm disappointed and I apologize to the team for getting ejected, although the circumstances were odd at best," Miles said. "You know, these guys are a great group of guys. I think they've really come a long way. I love coaching them, and I'm looking forward to brighter days."

Nebraska's only lead came 18 seconds into the game when Shields made a layup. Baylor scored 12 of the next 13 points to build a 12-3 margin.

Ahead 19-11 with 5 1/2 minutes left until the half, the Bears went on a 5-0 spurt. Heslip converted on a pair of free throws, Gathers put down a dunk and Taurean Prince added a free throw to make it a 24-11 contest.

Baylor took a 29-16 edge into the locker room. The Cornhuskers shot just 23.1 percent from the floor and went 0-for-11 from beyond the arc over the first 20 minutes.

The margin reached 32-16 after Austin started the second half with a 3- pointer.

Miles claimed his first technical foul with his team trailing 40-29. The technical helped Baylor build a 44-29 lead.

Miles drew his second technical for unsportsmanlike conduct with 11:17 left in the game. The Bears followed with six straight free throws to make it a 52-32 contest.

Nebraska made a late run to get as close as nine down the stretch.
