GAME NOTES: A pair of SEC squads coming off weekend victories meet in Music City on Wednesday night, as the Georgia Bulldogs come calling on the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Georgia conquered a home clash with South Carolina on Saturday afternoon, 62-54, in overtime, to put an end to a three-game losing streak. The win allowed the Bulldogs to climb back to .500 in the SEC (7-7), and they are 13-14 overall.

Vanderbilt concluded a two-game road swing on Saturday with a dominating 72-31 triumph at Mississippi State. Although the Commodores' season as a whole has not been anything to brag about (11-15, 5-9 SEC), they have been playing better of late with wins in three of their last five contests.

Vanderbilt has defeated Georgia on seven straight occasions to improve its standing in the all-time series to 88-48.

After trailing by three points with just 10 seconds left in regulation, Georgia sent the game to overtime following a Kentavious Caldwell-Pope 3- pointer, and it dominated the extra session, 9-1, on its way to the victory. It was a lackluster shooting performance for the Bulldogs (.313), but they stepped up at the defensive end by holding South Carolina to just 30 percent shooting, and while their free-throw percentage left much to be desired (.609), they were aided by a very busy day at the line (28-of-46). Caldwell- Pope finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and four steals, while Charles Mann and Nemanja Djurisic contributed 14 and 11 points respectively. UGA has been plagued by a disappointing scoring offense all season long (59.7 ppg), but luckily it is able to stay competitive in most contests thanks to the SEC's fifth-ranked scoring defense (61.1 ppg). Caldwell-Pope is in the midst of an All-SEC-caliber season with 17.6 ppg, 6.6 rpg and 2.1 spg, but he doesn't get much help from his teammates, with Djurisic (7.9 ppg) the next highest scorer.

The Commodores were nothing short of dominant in their 41-point victory over Mississippi State, their largest margin of victory in an SEC game since 2008. Not only did they shoot an impressive 45.9 percent from the field and drain 11 3-pointers, but they also played outstanding defense, holding the Bulldogs to a mere 7-of-40 from the field (.175). Kevin Bright was on fire from beyond the arc, draining 5-of-6 3-point tries for a game-high 15 points. Rod Odom added 13 points, Sheldon Jeter netted 11 points off the bench, and Dai-John Parker scored just five points, but tallied 13 rebounds and six assists. On the season, Vanderbilt plays a similar style to Georgia, as it boasts a strong defense (59.7 ppg), without the scoring attack (60.0 ppg) to properly back it up. Kedren Johnson is the team's leading scorer with 13.4 ppg, but he has seen a dip in production of late by scoring in single-digits in four of the past six games. Odom (10.5 ppg) and Kyle Fuller (9.4 ppg) are the only other consistent scoring options.

These two defensive-minded squads will beat each other up for 40 minutes, but in the end, Vanderbilt will ride the home court advantage to squeak out its second straight victory.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Vanderbilt 58, Georgia 56
