GAME NOTES: The Marshall Thundering Herd will try to stop the bleeding as they host the Tulsa Golden Hurricane for a Conference USA tilt at the Cam Henderson Center.

Tulsa won its first two C-USA games of the season before falling, 90-86, in overtime to Charlotte on Thursday. Coach Danny Manning's squad started the 2013-14 campaign out with just one win through seven outings, and despite coming up just short against the 49ers, has a ton of confidence despite heading into Huntington with a 7-10 overall record. Tulsa has yet to come out of any of its six true road tests triumphant, but has a strong chance of doing so if it can keep up its excellent play on the offensive end. The Golden Hurricane have posted 81 ppg over the span of their last five games. They are connecting on 34.7 percent of their 3-point attempts on the season to rank fourth in the C- USA.

Marshall has lost six of its last seven games to drop to a 6-12 overall record. The Thundering Herd were limited to 30.8 percent shooting from the floor on Thursday as they dropped an 80-65 decision to North Texas. Coach Tom Herrion's team is 0-8 in true road tests this season, but has performed much better at the Cam Henderson Center where it is 6-3. Due to a handful of departures and the addition of nine newcomers, Marshall has adopted a new style of play this season. It has the third highest scoring average among C- USA schools at 79.6 ppg and the second worst scoring defense in the 16-team league at 75.9 ppg.

This will be the 15th meeting in history between these schools. Tulsa owns an 8-6 all-time series lead although the Herd came out of last season's bout with a 79-61 victory.

Shaquille Harrison scored a game-high 26 points, adding seven rebounds and four assists with four turnovers for Tulsa in its heartbreaking loss at Halton Arena on Thursday. Harrison was not the only member of the squad to have a strong showing. Rashad Ray netted 19 points, and James Woodard added 13 with five rebounds. Woodard has managed to reach double figures in the scoring column every game since the start of December and averages a team-highs of 14.4 ppg and 5.9 rpg. Smith is chipping in 12.4 ppg to go along with 5.4 rpg. Harrison is also a regular contributor with averages of 11.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg and 3.6 apg.

The Herd have been able to post impressive offensive numbers despite losing their star tandem of DeAndre Kane and Elijah Pittman from the 2012-13 unit. Kane is having a great season as a member of Iowa State and Pittman was suspended indefinitely in early December. Marshall has a new duo to lean on in freshmen Kareem Canty and Ryan Taylor. Although the rest of Marshall's roster was disappointing in the loss to North Texas, the rookie tandem did their part. Canty finished with 26 points and five assists, while Taylor recorded a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Canty is posting 16.9 ppg to go along with 6.4 apg, which is the second best mark in the C-USA.

Marshall has not been the same without Pittman and may find itself at the bottom of the conference standings at the end of the season if it cannot find a replacement on the interior. The Herd's recent slump is a good sign for Tulsa, which seems to be meshing under Manning in just his second year as a head coach.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Tulsa 83, Marshall 71
