GAME NOTES: The Cornell Big Red tries to snap a three-game slide on Saturday night, as it entertains the Yale Bulldogs in Ivy League action at Newman Arena.

Cornell is closing out a four-game homestand on Saturday, but the results thus far have not been favorable and as a consequence the squad is currently tied with Brown and the Bulldogs for third place in the league standings with a record of 5-6. Last night, the team was knocked off by the Bears in a lopsided 84-65 final.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are coming off a loss of their own on Friday night, a 59-46 verdict versus Columbia on the road, the team's second defeat in as many outings.

Cornell won the first meeting of the season a few weeks back by a score of 68-61 on the road, which means the Big Red now leads the all-time series by a count of 110-103.

The Bulldogs shot a dismal 31.1 percent from the field last night, including 4-of-18 beyond the arc, in the loss at Columbia. Austin Morgan and Matt Townsend both finished with 10 points for the visitors, the latter also pulling down six rebounds to pace the program in that department as well. The reserves for Yale combined to shoot only 2-of-13 from the field and finished with a collective 10 points.

Against the rest of the Ivy League, the Bulldogs are producing a modest 65.1 ppg, but the squad is giving up almost an identical number (64.8 ppg) as it has allowed foes to make good on 40.1 percent from 3-point range with an average of seven triples per contest. Morgan stands as the lone double-digit scorer for the squad with his 10.3 ppg, yet he is shooting only 37.0 percent from the field at the moment.

Cornell's defense was severely lacking in the first half against Brown last night, allowing the Bears to shoot 59.3 percent from the floor, including 7- of-12 behind the 3-point line, which eventually doomed the hosts in the lopsided setback. Nolan Cressler tried to keep the Big Red close with 22 points, followed by Errick Peck with 13 points and five rebounds, but it wasn't nearly enough to keep the group competitive.

Putting up 66.1 ppg on the season overall through 28 games, Cornell lists a pair of double-digit scorers right now in Shonn Miller with 11.5 ppg and Johnathan Gray another 10.0 ppg, but the latter is currently listed as being out for tonight's game with an undisclosed issue, reducing the potency of the offense that much more. A 40.5 percent shooter beyond the arc, Cressler showed that he can fill some of the void.

Considering each of their performances last night, this is a meeting that could have both squads struggling to breach the 60-point mark, but if that is the case expect the Bulldogs to come out on top.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Yale 59, Cornell 56
