GAME NOTES: The Georgetown Hoyas will try to bounce back as they return to the nation's capital to host the Wright State Raiders at the Verizon Center in a non-conference matchup.

The Raiders opened their season with an 82-49 win over Division III Mount St. Joseph on Sunday. Coach Billy Donlon's squad is expected to be a contender for the Horizon League crown this season as it returns nine players from last season's 10-man rotation that amassed a 23-13 record. Wright State shot the lights out in its season-opening victory as it connected on 56.5 percent of its field goal attempts, including 6-of-15 from beyond the arc.

Georgetown began its season with an 82-75 loss to Oregon at USAG Humphreys Arena in South Korea. Coach John Thompson III's team is hoping to snap out of a slump as it lost three of its last four games to end the 2012-13 season, including a surprising, 78-68, loss to Florida Gulf Coast that knocked the second-seeded Hoyas out in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. It also marked the final contest of star forward Otto Porter's amateur career. Georgetown made 26 of its 44 attempts from inside the 3-point line versus Oregon, but fell short as it went 1-of-15 on tries from beyond the arc.

This will be the first meeting in history between Wright State and Georgetown.

Donlon's emphasis on defensive pressure made the Raiders one of the top defensive teams in nation last season as they allowed only 58.5 points per game, but the constant substitutions prevented any single player from posting impressive numbers on the offensive end. Senior forward Cole Darling led the team in the scoring column with just 11.2 ppg. Former Butler transfer A.J. Pacher led the way on Sunday with 21 points after he converted all nine of his shots from the field, including one 3-point basket, and both of his free-throw attempts. Sophomore forward J.T. Yoho chipped in 7 points, while Jerran Young provided a double-double off the bench with 10 points and 10 boards. Junior guard Kendall Griffin, who clocked the most minutes on the squad last season with 1,046, dealt out a team-high five assists without committing any turnovers.

The Hoyas were able to dominate on the interior against the Ducks due to the team's biggest addition to the lineup, Joshua Smith. The 6-foot-10, 350-pound UCLA transfer went 10-of-13 from the floor en route to a game-high 25 points as he clearly outdueled Oregon's star big man Mike Moser. Sophomore guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera had a tough time in South Korea as he finished with just five points after missing all five of his 3-point field goal attempts. Smith-Rivera displayed his ability to take over a game last season as he scored in double figures on 12 occasions, including a career-high 33-point outing versus DePaul. Thompson has a great deal of depth at guard as the team's leading scorer among returners, Markel Starks, and the experienced Jabril Trawick join Smith-Rivera in the backcourt.

Both of these teams are tremendous on the defensive end of the floor which will turn this bout into a very physical battle. Although Wright State is very deep, it does not have a player that can handle Smith one-on-one in the post. The Raiders will have to provide help on the former Bruin, which could be devastating as it will create some open looks for Starks and Smith-Rivera.
