NCAA Game Summary - SMU at Houston

(Sunday, January 26th)

Final Score: SMU 75, Houston 68

Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Nic Moore scored a game-high 28 points as he led the SMU Mustangs to a 75-68 win over the Houston Cougars in American Athletic Conference action at Hofheinz Pavilion.

Markus Kennedy produced a double-double for the visitors with 15 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Nick Russell with 10 points for an SMU (16-4, 5-2 AAC) squad that has won five in a row and six of the last seven.

The Cougars (11-9, 3-4) were led by Danuel House who tallied 22 points in 27 minutes off the bench, shooting 7-of-11 from the field and 4-of-7 behind the 3-point line. TaShawn Thomas responded with 13 points and 11 rebounds as the team fell for the fourth time in five outings.

SMU couldn't buy a basket in the first half, shooting only 7-of-26 from the floor, including 1-of-7 beyond the arc, but thanks to a 10-of-12 effort at the free-throw line the team was able to stay within striking distance, down by just six at the break, 31-25.

The Mustangs turned it around in the second half as they converted a sizzling 61.5 percent from the floor, not to mention all but three of 20 chances at the charity stripe, en route to the seven-point road win.

In a game that featured 10 ties and 12 lead changes, SMU outscored the hosts by a 27-16 margin at the free-throw line.
