GAME NOTES: The first-ever meeting between the Green Bay Phoenix and the Fairfield Stags is set for this afternoon at the Resch Center.

The Stags have won a total of just two games in 10 chances this season, finally putting to rest an eight-game slide last weekend with a 64-60 victory over Northeastern. The team is kicking off a four-game road trip with this outing, but in true road tests Fairfield has come up empty in three tries previously.

The Phoenix have performed much more favorably to this point, producing seven wins in 10 chances. The team has won two straight and four of the last five thanks to a 76-49 thrashing of Tennessee Tech on Tuesday night. At home, Green Bay has recorded four wins against only one loss.

In a game that featured eight ties and six lead changes, the Stags were in the right place at the right time against Northeastern as they finally broke back into the win column. Marcus Gilbert had a big hand in the win as he tallied 23 points and pulled down six rebounds in order to offset five turnovers. The only other double-digit scorer for the Stags was Maurice Barrow who dropped in 20 points in 23 minutes off the bench. Defensively, Fairfield forced 15 turnovers and held the Huskies scoreless out on the perimeter (0-of-11).

The Stags are shooting only 38.5 percent from the field through 10 games, resulting in just 60.9 ppg. Gilbert leads the way from an individual standpoint with 14.8 ppg, stemming from his team-high 21 3-pointers, while Barrow checks in with 12.1 ppg. The duo has combined to pull down almost nine rebounds per game, but at the same time they've been guilty of a collective 45 turnovers.

Keifer Sykes scored 17 points in helping the Green Bay Phoenix rout the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles, 76-49, in non-conference action at the Resch Center. Also scoring in double figures for Green Bay were Vince Garrett and Alec Brown with 16 and 15 points, respectively, the latter adding six rebounds and four blocked shots for the Phoenix as they put together a 38-3 scoring run between the first and second halves to take control of the meeting and cruise to the win. Defensively, Green Bay allowed the Golden Eagles to convert 19 field goals and at the same time force 22 turnovers.

On the season, Sykes is the one who dictates the offense for Green Bay, scoring 21.1 ppg as he shoots 48.6 percent from the floor, but a disappointing 9-of-36 (.250) from long range. Responsible for a team-high 46 assists, Sykes does have great touch at the free-throw line (62-of-73), having made almost twice as many shots as his closest teammate has even attempted. Brown (13.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg) handles action in the paint with 33 blocked shots.

With the way that the Fairfield offense has been stumbling along this season, even if the Stags are able to keep the scoring to a minimum at both ends, that doesn't mean the visitors have much of a chance to pull off the upset.
