GAME NOTES: The Cleveland State Vikings are hoping for a less strenuous outing on Tuesday, as they shoot for their third straight victory while taking on the Colonials of Robert Morris in the second round of consolation games of the 2012 NIT Season Tip-Off at the Sewall Center.

On Monday, the Vikings were matched up against the Chargers of Alabama- Huntsville and had to hold their breath in the final moments in order to pull off the 71-69 win as they came back from a nine-point deficit midway through the second half.

As for host Robert Morris, it too came out on the winning side of its meeting yesterday as it tackled the Bowling Green Falcons rather easily in a 71-60 final. The win was the second in the last three games for a team that began the 2012-13 campaign with back-to-back setbacks versus the likes of Rider and Lehigh.

With a 62-58 win over Robert Morris last season, the Vikings managed to knot the all-time series at six games apiece.

Cleveland State led by as many as seven points in the first half against UAH yesterday, but the Vikings saw a 16-point swing over a 15-minute stretch and that nearly sent the team back into the loss column. However, Charlie Lee helped save the day with his 15 points, followed by Anton Grady with 14 and the pairing of Tim Kamczyc and Sebastian Douglas with 11 points apiece as the team connected on 51.1 percent from the floor, including 9-of-18 behind the three-point line, which helped to overcome a disappointing 14-of-23 showing at the free-throw line. Through the first five games CSU has put together an impressive balanced attack, with Lee leading the way with his 13.6 ppg and Grady following close behind with 13.2 ppg. Kamczyc (12.0 ppg) has actually shot better from three-point range (13-of-27, .481) than he has from the floor overall (.417) and yet the team is still making just 37.6 percent from beyond the arc.

Like the Vikings, Robert Morris also saw a huge scoring swing in their meeting with Bowling Green on Monday, first trailing by nine points in the first half and then opening up an 11-point advantage after the break in order to secure the double-digit victory on their home floor. Velton Jones led the way with 16 points, thanks in large part to his 9-of-10 showing at the free-throw line, while Mike McFadden and Coron Williams both delivered 12 points and Anthony Myers-Pate chipped in 11 and five assists in a reserve role for a team that survived five ties, 10 lead changes and 16 turnovers. Velton Jones, the leading scorer in two of the team's five outings, is currently producing 13.8 ppg to pace the group, although his mere 35.6 percent accuracy from the field is less than encouraging. Then again, the fact that he has 25 of the unit's 59 assists tends to overshadow his shooting woes for the time being.

This may be considered a home game for Robert Morris, but it won't be comfortable by any means. The Colonials will be challenged by having to guard too many offensive threats and that could do them in.
