GAME NOTES: The DePaul Blue Demons and Oregon State Beavers will open up the month of December when the two teams clash at Allstate Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Oliver Purnell's Blue Demons return home after a fruitless trip to Kansas City, as DePaul dropped back-to-back games to Wichita State (90-72) and Texas (77-59) over a two-day span. With the setbacks, DePaul fell to .500 on the year at 3-3.

Craig Robinson's Beavers lost their season opener to Coppin State, but have won three straight games since, including a 101-81 rout of SIUE last week.

DePaul won the only previous meeting between these two teams, a 59-40 victory way back in 1945.

The Beavers aren't getting the kind of attention that powers like Arizona and UCLA are getting in the Pac-12, but Oregon State has played at a very high rate offensively this season and could make some noise in the conference when all is said and done. OSU is averaging a gaudy 85.8 ppg, shooting an ultra- efficient 53.7 percent from the floor. Roberto Nelson is among the nation's leading scorers, averaging an eye-popping 27.0 ppg. Devon Collier provides the ultimate balance inside with 20.0 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. Angus Brandt is a distant third in the scoring column at 11.8 ppg.

The OSU offense was on full display in the 101-point eruption against SIUE. Collier was 7-of-9 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line to finish with a game-high 20 points. Four other Beavers joined him in double figures, in Brandt (19 pts), Nelson (17 pts), Victor Robbins (12 pts) and Olaf Schaftenaar (11 pts). The Beavers got into a groove early and carried it throughout the contest, shooting over 60 percent from the floor in both halves, and finishing the game at 64 percent accuracy.

DePaul doesn't seem to be a good match defensively for the Beavers. The Blue Demons are allowing 73.8 ppg, but more importantly, is the fact that foes are shooting a solid .470 from the field. DePaul meanwhile, has done a great job offensively at 76.0 ppg. It starts with Cleveland Melvin, who leads the way both in scoring (16.5 ppg) and rebounding (5.7 rpg). Brandon Young is a close second in scoring at 15.5 ppg. Both players are shooting over 51 percent from the floor. Tommy Hamilton (10.7 ppg) rounds out the top scoring threats for DePaul.

The Blue Demons struggled at both ends of the court in the losses in Kansas City. Against Texas, DePaul shoot just .383 from the floor and were doubled up on the boards, outrebounded, 40-20. Melvin led three DePaul players in double figures with 15 points. Young poured in 14, while Billy Garrett chipped in with 11.

The Blue Demons need to forget their recent road trip, but if they struggle early on, Oregon State will make them pay.
