GAME NOTES: The Kansas State Wildcats and Georgetown Hoyas will try to pick up the pieces from first-round losses, as they meet up in the second round of the 2013 Puerto Rico Tip-Off on Friday.

Bruce Weber's Wildcats fell to 2-2 on the season with Thursday's 68-61 setback to Charlotte in opening-round action in San Juan. Kansas State opened the 2013-14 campaign with three straight games at the Bramlage Coliseum and went 2-1, with a season-opening loss to Northern Colorado (60-58), followed by back-to-back wins over Oral Roberts (71-63) and Long Beach State (71-58).

John Thompson III's Hoyas opened the year with a tough loss to nationally- ranked Oregon in South Korea (82-75), but returned home to earn an 88-70 victory over Wright State. On Thursday, Georgetown fell back under .500 on the year, suffering a 63-56 setback to Northeastern.

This marks the first-ever meeting between these two programs.

Charlotte broke open a tight game in the second half with a decisive 20-7 run to send the Wildcats into the consolation bracket in San Juan. Nigel Johnson scored 14 points for Kansas State in defeat. Shane Southwell and Marcus Foster both added 11 points apiece, although the pair managed to go an ugly 1-of-14 from beyond the arc.

Kansas State's offensive woes have plagued the team in the early going this season. The Wildcats are averaging a mere 65.2 ppg, doing so on .405 shooting, a number that is weighed down by an alarming .238 performance from behind the arc. Just a freshman, Foster has made a solid impact thus far and is the only Wildcat currently averaging double figures in scoring at 15.3 ppg. Southwell is just under double digits at 9.8 ppg, while Will Spradling chips in with 8.8 ppg.

Georgetown opened its game against Northeastern with a 9-0 run and took an 11- point lead into the intermission, but the team faltered in the second half and dropped a seven-point contest to Northeastern in first-round action. Sophomore guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera led the team offensively with 14 points. Junior center Joshua Smith added nine points and six rebounds, while senior guard Markel Starks chipped in with nine points as well. The Hoyas shot just .360 from the floor in the game, including a dismal .231 from the field in the second half.

Until yesterday, scoring wasn't a problem for Georgetown. Through three games, the team is now netting 73.0 ppg. Starks (16.0 ppg) paces the team in the scoring column. Smith-Rivera (15.0 ppg) is close second, while Smith provides some frontcourt balance with 13.3 ppg.

The Hoyas let one slip away on Thursday, but should be able to take advantage of K-State's offensive deficiencies, en route to narrow victory.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Georgetown 68, Kansas State 63
