NCAA Game Summary - USC at Oregon State

(Thursday, January 30th)

Final Score: Oregon State 76, USC 75 (OT)

Corvallis, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Roberto Nelson's layup with 25 seconds remaining in overtime was just enough to earn the Oregon State Beavers a 76-75 win versus the USC Trojans in Pac-12 Conference action at Gill Coliseum.

Nelson finished the contest with 24 points and eight rebounds for the Beavers (12-8, 4-4 Pac-12) as they won for the third time in the last four outings. Angus Brandt added 14 points, Devon Collier 13 and Hallice Cooke 11 points. Eric Moreland accounted for a team-best 10 rebounds and four blocked shots.

The Trojans (10-11, 1-7) were led by Byron Wesley with 23 points, while Pe'Shon Howard and Omar Oraby accounted for 16 and 13 points, respectively, as they bowed for the seventh time in the last eight games.

USC, which shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, knocked down all eight chances at the free-throw line in order to claim a 39-36 advantage at the break. OSU converted a mere 8-of-15 at the charity stripe in the period.

In the second half the Beavers again had their issues at the free-throw line (12-of-20), but a 3-pointer by Cooke with under a minute remaining in regulation knotted the score at 72-72 and sent the meeting into overtime.

During the extra session points were very hard to come by, with all four by the hosts coming from Nelson.

In a contest that featured six ties and eight lead changes, Oregon State overcame 16 turnovers by limiting the hosts to 4-of-17 shooting behind the 3- point line.
