Estero, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Latif Rivers scored 17 points as the Wagner Seahawks took down the Stetson Hatters, 81-64, in the opening round of the Gulf Coast Showcase at Germain Arena.

For the Seahawks (4-2), Dwaun Anderson and Marcus Burton each finished with 12 points, Jay Harris scored 11 points and Naofall Folahan added 11 rebounds and seven blocks. Wagner will go up against St. Bonaventure in the second round of the event on Tuesday.

Willie Green led the Hatters (0-6) with 15 points, while Kentwan Smith chipped in with 11 points. Stetson will take on Southern Illinois, also on Tuesday.

Wagner shot 41.9 percent from the field in the first half, including 3-of-10 from 3-point range. Stetson struggled from the floor, making just 33.3 percent of its field goal tries in the half, including 1-of-4 from beyond the arc. After trailing late in the half, the Seahawks made a run in the final minutes, scoring the last four points of the period to go into halftime leading 33-28.

Wagner got hot from the floor after intermission, connecting on 57.1 percent of its field goal tries, including 7-of-12 from 3-point distance. Stetson improved but still made only 40 percent from the field, while hitting 4-of-10 from 3-point range. Leading by just one, 55-54, midway through the second half, the Seahawks used an 18-2 run to finally put away the Hatters and secure the victory.

Wagner had an advantage on the boards, outrebounding Stetson 44-33. The Hatters failed to take advantage of their opportunities at the charity stripe, shooting just 9-of-17 from the free-throw line, while the Seahawks finished 13-of-14 from the line.
