NCAA Game Summary - Western Michigan vs. New Mexico State

Honolulu, HI (Sports Network) - David Brown poured in 25 points to lead the Western Michigan Broncos to a season opening, 70-64 victory over the New Mexico State Aggies in the Rainbow Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Kellen McCormick added 14 points for WMU (1-0), which also received 10 points from Austin Richie. Taylor Perry led the team on the boards with six rebounds.

Tshilidzi Nephawe paced NMSU (0-1) with 18 points and eight rebounds. Remi Barry added 10 points and six boards.

The Broncos took a 32-28 lead into halftime after hitting on 12-of-31 field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes. NMSU fell behind as it went 1-of-6 from beyond the arc in the first half.

The Aggies hit on only 32 percent of their field goal tries and missed all five of their shots from beyond the arc after the break. WMU went 6-of-13 from behind the 3-point line and converted 12-of-14 attempts at the charity stripe in the second half to secure the decision.

Despite the loss, the Aggies held a dominant, 47-30 edge in the rebounding battle and also outscored WMU, 28-16, in the paint.

The Aggies will take on Tennessee State in Saturday's round of the Rainbow Classic. Following that matchup, Western Michigan will square off with Hawaii.
