GAME NOTES: After taking a fall from the national rankings, the Connecticut Huskies will try to bounce back when they take on the South Florida Bulls in American Athletic Conference action at the Sun Dome.

UConn was ranked No. 21 in the country last week, but a 64-55 loss to SMU on Sunday ended a four-game win streak and pushed them out of the Top-25. The Huskies are still an impressive 21-6 overall, but they are only fifth in the AAC standings (9-5). They face a tough test against Cincinnati next.

USF hasn't sniffed the national rankings this season, with an overall record of 12-15 entering play on Wednesday. The Bulls were stomped by Louisville, 80-54, in their most recent matchup, dropping to 3-11 in league play, which leads only UCF and Temple in the standings at the moment. They visit Rutgers and Houston in their next two games.

If the first meeting this season between these two teams is any indication, Wednesday's bout will not be a competitive one. UConn made quick work of USF to claim an 83-40 triumph on Feb. 12. The win continued the Huskies' dominance in the all-time series (11-2).

UConn got a first-hand look at how dominant SMU can be on defense when it faced the Mustangs on Sunday. The Huskies were only able to sink 29.6 percent of their shots from the floor, while turning the ball over 16 times. Ryan Boatright and Shabazz Napier each scored 15 points, but they combined to go only 8-of-28 from the floor.

Napier and Boatright run the show for the Huskies, forming one of the best backcourt tandems in the country. Napier (17.8 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 5.3 apg) has been especially effective this season. He ranks second in the AAC in scoring, and is the league leader in assists. He also does a great job of getting into passing lanes, ranking third in the conference in steals (1.9 spg). Boatright (12.6 ppg, 3.5 apg) does fine work as the second option, with his ability to score and spread the ball. DeAndre Daniels (12.9 ppg, 5.6 rpg) is the squad's best performer on the inside, while Niels Giffey (8 ppg, .493 3-point FG percentage) is a long-range gunner.

There wasn't much that USF did right in its recent loss to Louisville. The Bulls turned the ball over 20 times, connected on just 1-of-10 shots from beyond the arc and were outscored, 56-26, in the paint. If not for Victor Rudd (27 points, 10 rebounds), the final score would have been even more embarrassing.

Rudd (15.3 ppg, 6.8 rpg) has been far and away the only reliable offensive threat on the floor for the Bulls this season. He not only leads the team in scoring, but he is the only player on the roster averaging in double figures. Corey Allen Jr. (9.6 ppg) is the next best option, but he is only connecting on 39.7 percent of his shots from the floor. Lacking much in the way of scoring depth has obviously not helped the team produce when it matters most. The Bulls are last in the AAC in both scoring (65.8 ppg) and assists (12.6 apg), while shooting a pedestrian 43.5 percent from the field.

Napier may be the go-to option, but the Huskies are able to spread the wealth offensively. Rudd doesn't get the same type of support from his teammates, which will be the deciding factor in what should be an easy win for UConn.
