GAME NOTES: Coming off a win three nights earlier, the Wofford Terriers look to make it two in a row when they take on the Georgia Southern Eagles at Hanner Fieldhouse on Thursday.

Wofford has been on the win-loss seesaw since the calendar flipped to 2014, splitting its six games in the new year. However, the Terriers notched a 71-60 victory over Western Carolina on Monday night and hope to carry that into a winning streak. Next up, they'll visit Furman on Saturday afternoon.

Similarly, Georgia Southern has been stuck in neutral as it has not won nor lost consecutive games since the first week of December. Most recently, the Eagles were dealt an 81-68 setback at Appalachian State this past Saturday. They could certainly use a victory here before hitting the road for four of their next five games.

GSU holds a narrow 23-22 edge in the all-time series. These teams will play each other again in two weeks in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Wofford nearly coughed up an 18-point second-half lead against Western Carolina earlier this week after giving up a 14-0 run. However, the Terriers managed to weather the storm and ended the game with a 14-5 spurt to seal the victory against one of the league's top defensive squads. The Terriers also pride themselves on sound defense and were able to limit the Catamounts to 31.7-percent shooting from the floor. Karl Cochran made 9-of-18 field goals and led all scorers with 23 points, while Spencer Collins was next in line with 15. Down low, Lee Skinner posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. On the season, Cochran is averaging a team-best 13.6 ppg to go along with 5.4 rpg. Collins (13.3 ppg) and Skinner (11.4 ppg, 8.7 rpg) round out the Terriers' double-digit scorers.

For Georgia Southern, two players could both eclipse 1,000 points for their respective careers in this contest. Jelani Hewitt sits just two points shy of the milestone while Tre Bussey needs seven points. Hewitt currently tops the conference in scoring with 20.7 ppg. A 37.4-percent shooter from beyond the arc (52-of-139), he also averages 5.2 rebounds. Fellow guards Tre Bussey (17.8 ppg) and Brian Holmes (10.3 ppg) have combined to shoot a healthy 41.3 percent from the perimeter (71-of-172). Holmes connected on six of the team's 11 3- pointers en route to a career-high 21 points against Appalachian State, but the Mountaineers used a key 13-0 run to claim the win. Hewitt chipped in with 19 points, but he also committed seven turnovers.

This is an interesting matchup between two guard-oriented teams. Can Wofford defend the perimeter well enough to limit the damage from GSU's sharpshooters? Perhaps, but the Eagles are playing on their home floor and figure to put forth a strong effort coming off Saturday's loss.
