RALEIGH, NC – Senior guard Will Gill (Clinton, Md.) scored 16 points and sophomore forward Shaun Washum (Norfolk, Va.) added 11 points, and Saint Augustine’s College overcame an early deficit to topple Shaw University 69-60 for its sixth straight victory Saturday (Jan. 3) at Emery Gymnasium.

The victory also extended the Falcons’ win streak to seven games over their crosstown CIAA rivals. The last time the Bears (3-8 overall, 1-3 CIAA) won a game in the season series was 71-65 on Jan. 22, 2005.

The Bears appeared ready to snap the skid in the early moments. They opened a 13-4 lead in the first seven minutes, but were outscored 65-47 the rest of the contest.

Shaw led 31-28 at halftime, but the Falcons (7-4, 4-2 CIAA) opened the second half with a 13-0 run. The Falcons never trailed from that point.

Sophomore forward Hayward Fain (Akron, OH) and junior forward Chris Jordan (Houston, TX) both added nine points for the Falcons, who shot 45 percent from the floor and made 16 of 24 free throws. Meanwhile, the Bears shot 42 percent from the floor and only connected on 5 of 14 free throws.
