North Carolina earned a No. 3 seed in the Oklahoma City Region after finishing the year 27-6 and advancing to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament, where it lost to eventual champion Maryland.
The Tar Heels will play Central Florida at noon on Saturday in Chattanooga, Tenn., in the tournament's first round and would face the winner of Purdue versus Charlotte if they advanced.
Duke will have farther to travel for its first-round game, but will do so as the top seed in its region.
After ending the year with a 26-5 record and an ACC Tournament championship game appearance, the Blue Devils will take on Austin Peay (17-15) in the opening round in the Berkeley region. Tip-off is set for Sunday afternoon in East Lansing, Mich., at approximately 2:30 p.m.
If they should advance past the Lady Governors, coach Joanne P. McCallie's team would play the winner of Middle Tennessee versus Michigan State. Ironically, Michigan State is the team that McCallie left to take the Duke job.
