Duke is No. 1 seed in South, opens NCAA play Friday
By Associated Press Mar 15, 2010
Duke claimed one tournament title and immediately turned its attention toward the pursuit of an even more important one.
The Atlantic Coast Conference champion Blue Devils claimed the No. 1 seed in the South Regional on Sunday night when the NCAA announced its tournament pairings. Duke (29-5) will face the play-in winner, either Winthrop or Arkansas-Pine Bluff, in the first round Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Jacksonville, Fla.

In making the field for the 26th time in 27 years and for the 15th straight year, the Blue Devils claimed a No. 1 seed for the first time since 2006. Under coach Mike Krzyzewski, Duke has reached 10 Final Fours and won three national titles.
Kansas, Kentucky, Syracuse have earned the remaining No. 1 seeds for the NCAA tournament, with the Jayhawks selected as the top seed overall for this year's version of March Madness.
The 65-team bracket was announced Sunday. Play starts Tuesday with an opening-round game, and the tournament goes into full swing Thursday.
Syracuse, the Big East regular-season champ, got a No. 1 seed despite heading into the tournament with its first two-game losing streak of the season.
Kansas (32-2), Kentucky (32-2) and Duke (29-5) all won their conference tournaments. The Blue Devils were deemed more worthy of a top seed than West Virginia (27-6), which won the Big East and had two wins over No. 22 Georgetown and one over No. 10 Villanova this month.
The Blue Devils won't know their opponent until Wednesday. They face the winner of the opening-round game between Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Winthrop on Friday in Jacksonville.
The ACC placed two teams in the Midwest region. Maryland, the No. 4 seed, will face Houston and Georgia Tech (10) takes on Oklahoma State. Both games will be played Friday.
Florida State, the ninth seed in the West region, will play Friday in Buffalo against Butler.
Wake Forest, seeded ninth in the East, will take on the Texas Longhorns Thursday.
Four conferences crowned a tournament champion Sunday afternoon:
Duke (No. 4) topped Georgia Tech in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Blue Devils have won nine of the past 11 ACC tournaments. Sunday's title is Duke's league-record 19th title.
Upstart Mississippi State gave second-ranked Kentucky a scare, forcing overtime before the Wildcats claimed the 75-74 victory.
In the Atlantic 10, No. 17 Temple won a third straight conference tournament title, topping Richmond 56-52.
The Big 10 finished with No. 5 Ohio State dominating Minnesota 90-61.

Dook gets the weak bracket as usual...if they can beat L'ville FInal Four should be a lock barring a choke which is not out of the question away from Hansbrough Indoor. I hope they lose in the 1st round personally. Let's see if you Dookies can back up that ACC title with a decent showing at the NCAAT for the first time this decade.

Well, the decade just started three months ago...so I think we have done as well as everyone. Or if you are a purist who thinks the decade ends in 2010, then don't forget the 2001 championship.

Well, even if Duke gets blown out of the arena on Friday night they
still will be
far ahead of the progress made by the mighty "let's
always talk about the past instead" heels this season.

Living in the past - a continuing excuse

UNC had Gonzaga as a 4 seed and a very strong OU team as a 2, which they beat. Their bracket was not the easiest last year.
