NCAA Game Summary - Virginia at North Carolina

(Saturday, November 9)

Final Score: North Carolina 45, Virginia 14

Chapel Hill, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Marquise Williams threw for two touchdowns, ran for a third and caught yet another as he led the North Carolina Tar Heels to a lopsided 45-14 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers in an Atlantic Coast Conference duel at Kenan Stadium.

Williams converted 15-of-28 passes for 185 yards, was sacked twice and tossed an interception as the Tar Heels (4-5, 3-3 ACC) picked up their third straight win. The quarterback also carried the ball 16 times for another 46 yards for the hosts.

The Cavaliers (2-8, 0-6) were paced by Kevin Parks who generated a game-high 100 yards rushing and scored once as the team suffered a seventh-straight setback. Quarterbacks David Watford and Greyson Lambert combined to hit on 22- of-43 passes for 204 yards.

North Carolina ran out to a 21-0 halftime lead, thanks to a touchdown pass of eight yards from Williams to Quinshad Davis in the first quarter. The pair reversed roles on the next TD as Davis was credited with a 29-yard scoring pass to Williams at the end of the frame.

The only points of the second quarter came courtesy of an 85-yard punt return for a score by Ryan Switzer.

The Tar Heels continued to pile on in the third quarter when Williams called his own number for a three-yard scoring run.

Trailing by a score of 28-0, Virginia finally landed on the board when Parks made his way across the goal line on an eight-yard run.

Unfortunately for the Cavs, UNC responded with a 62-yard interception return for a touchdown by Dominique Green and a 15-yard scoring pass from Williams to Khris Francis early in the fourth to make the score 42-7.

Lambert then stepped in and delivered a 23-yard TD pass to Keeon Johnson at the 11:38 mark of the period, while North Carolina kicker Thomas Moore finished off the scoring on the day with a 24-yard field goal just moments later.

North Carolina recorded the decisive victory despite being assessed 13 penalties for a loss of 102 yards.

The losing streak for the Cavaliers is their longest in a single season since 1981.
