NCAA Game Summary - Houston at Rutgers

(Saturday, October 26)

Final Score: Houston 49, Rutgers 14

Piscataway, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Freshman John O'Korn threw a career-high five touchdown passes, leading the Houston Cougars to a 49-14 rout of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in an American Athletic Conference tilt at High Point Solutions Stadium.

O'Korn also finished with a career-high 364 passing yards, as he completed 24- of-30 passes. Sophomore Deontay Greenberry had eight catches for a personal- best 168 yards and three scores in the victory. Meanwhile, the Cougars (6-1, 3-0 AAC) defense generated a season-high six takeaways to help UH remain unbeaten in conference play.

The Scarlet Knights (4-3, 1-2) had been idle since Oct. 10, and they were handed their worst loss since dropping a 56-5 decision to Louisville in 2005. Justin Goodwin was the lone bright spot, as he carried 31 times for 161 yards and two TDs.

Goodwin opened the scoring with a five-yard touchdown run at the 3:22 mark of the first quarter to stake Rutgers a 7-0 lead.

The Houston defense came up with an interception later in the opening frame, and O'Korn capitalized with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Greenberry with 46 seconds to play in the quarter.

UH made it a 14-7 game on Kenneth Farrow's 40-yard TD scamper with just under 12 minutes to play until halftime.

Goodwin answered with a 14-yard touchdown run for Rutgers midway through the second quarter, which capped a 12-play, 75-yard drive.

But on the very next play from scrimmage, O'Korn found Greenberry for an 83- yard scoring strike to put UH back on top. Scarlet Knights fullback Michael Burton lost a fumble on the next series, and two plays later O'Korn hooked up with Demarcus Ayers for a 26-yard touchdown pass to make it a 28-14 game.

The Cougars extended their lead to 35-14 midway through the third quarter on another touchdown pass from O'Korn, this time to Aaron Johnson from two yards out, to cap an 11-play, 84-yard drive.

UH continued to pad its lead the rest of the way. Greg Ward, Jr. tacked on a two-yard rushing TD late in the third quarter, and O'Korn and Greenberry connected for yet another scoring strike in the fourth, this time from five yards.

The Cougars converted 7-of-12 third downs on the day and piled up 611 yards of total offense.
