Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - The Wolfpack amassed 239 yards and three touchdowns on the ground as NC State dispatched the Central Michigan Chippewas, 48-14, in a non-conference bout at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Shadrach Thornton led NC State (3-1) with 71 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Pete Thomas completed 14-of-20 pass attempts for 244 yards with one touchdown to one interception. Bryan Underwood had a huge game with 148 yards and a touchdown on five catches in addition to 42 yards on three rushing attempts.

Cooper Rush had a difficult time while under center for CMU (1-4), which suffered its third consecutive setback. The freshman quarterback went 16-of-37 for 165 yard yards with one touchdown to three interceptions. Maurice Shoemaker-Gilmore paced the Chippewas on the ground with 64 yards and a touchdown on five carries.

Neither offense managed to put any points on the board in the opening 15 minutes. NC State took a 7-0 lead after D.J. Green intercepted Cooper and returned the pick 37 yards for a touchdown less than three minutes after kickoff.

The Wolfpack's offense started to click in the second quarter and scored rushing touchdowns on three straight drives. Thornton scored a 29- yard run and Matt Dayes rushed 42 yards for a touchdown. The long run by Dayes gave the true freshman his fifth touchdown of the season.

Rashard Smith added to the onslaught with a 67-yard punt return for a touchdown before Thomas took one in himself from eight yards out to send NC State into halftime with a 35-0 lead.

The only points of the third quarter came courtesy of a 46-yard field goal by NC State's Niklas Sade.

CMU finally got on the board in the opening seconds of the fourth frame as Rush completed a 13-yard touchdown pass to Davis. The Chippewas added another touchdown at the 11:42 mark of the fourth quarter when Shoemaker-Gilmore broke away for a 38-yard touchdown run.

NC State ended the run as Thomas completed an 80-yard touchdown pass to Underwood. The play marked the longest catch for Underwood in his career and also the first touchdown pass for Thomas in an NC State uniform.

Sade added three more points with 6:37 remaining in regulation as he chipped in a 34-yard field goal that gave the Wolfpack a 48-14 lead.

The Wolfpack racked up 483 yards of total offense in the game while CMU produced only 259 offensive yards. The Chippewas converted only 2-of-13 third down plays into first downs.
