Ryan Johnson
Johnson was an unlikely force on an even less likely Big Sky title contender a year ago, rushing for 1,537 yards and 14 touchdowns while also catching 18 passes out of the backfield. The Fort Collins, CO native went from relative obscurity to the "Payton Watch" list on the strength of mesmerizing performances against the likes of Weber State (243 yards, 2 TD), Cal State Northridge (237 yards, 2 TD) and Idaho State (271 yards, 3 TD), among others. Johnson, who established an MSU single-season rushing record in 2001, needs just 450 yards to set the Bobcats? career rushing mark. Though he was sidelined during spring drills with back problems, the Big Sky?s top returning running back is expected to be back in top form as up-and-coming Montana State attempts to take another step toward national acclaim.
-Tony Moss

Weber State head coach Jerry Graybeal on Johnson, "He trucked us. He?s a tough, hardnosed football player, that?s all there is to it. To me, he?s a throwback. You watch him, he?s a one-cut, get north-and-south kind of a guy that has a nice little wrinkle to him and runs very, very strong. If you don?t bring it on him, he?ll deliver. He?ll make things happen. He broke us down and had a great game against us. Just a solid kid, doesn?t put the ball on the ground, catches the ball, does real well in their screen game. Just a hardnosed, tough guy."
