Holy Cross to play UConn in 2017

Worcester, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Holy Cross and the University of Connecticut announced Thursday they will resume their dormant football rivalry during the 2017 season.

The two teams will square off on Sept. 9, 2017 at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn.

They have not met since Oct. 19, 1985, when both schools played in NCAA Division I-AA (now FCS). Holy Cross, still an FCS member out of the Patriot League, holds a 19-8-1 advantage in the all-time series.

UConn, an FBS member, lost to an FCS program, Towson, last season.

"The team and I are excited to add UConn to our 2017 schedule," Holy Cross coach Tom Gilmore said. "Games like this are great for building our football program, and can truly help us with recruiting and attracting top-tier talent."

Holy Cross announced earlier this year that it will resume an old rivalry with Boston College in the 2018 and '20 seasons.
