(Saturday, October 12)

Final Score: Tulsa 34, Texas-El Paso 20

El Paso, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Cody Green threw a pair of touchdown passes and Trey Watts rushed for over 100 yards as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane topped the Texas-El Paso Miners, 34-20, in a Conference USA matchup at the Sun Bowl.

Watts tallied 142 yards on 27 carries while Green completed 14-of-17 pass attempts for 226 yards and also rushed for a touchdown for Tulsa (2-4, 1-1 C- USA). Thomas Roberson had five receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown and Keevan Lucas had four catches for 85 yards and a score as well for the Tulsa, which ended a three-game losing streak.

Jameill Showers completed just 12-of-30 pass attempts and was intercepted twice for UTEP (1-5 0-3). Showers did total 166 yards passing and throw for a touchdown as well as run for 74 yards. Jordan Leslie pulled in Showers' lone touchdown pass and had 102 yards on four receptions. Aaron Jones ran for 90 yards on 15 carries.

A 34-yard pass completion from Green to Lucas on third-down sparked Tulsa on its first scoring drive. Five plays after the big pass play, Ja'Terian Douglas scored on a three-yard run.

UTEP drove into Tulsa territory on the ensuing drive but failed to get a touchdown, instead settling for a 45-yard field goal.

Tulsa wasted no time in responding as Green threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Lucas on the very next drive.

The Golden Hurricane got into the end zone once again on the first play of the second quarter when Green hooked up with Roberson for a 35-yard touchdown pass.

The Miners were able to answer, but yet again had to settle for a field goal, this time a 34-yard effort from Jay Mattox.

The second half started quickly for UTEP as Autrey Golden returned the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown.

Tulsa was able to push its lead back to double-digits a few minutes later with a 38-yard field goal from Carl Salazar. It was one of two field goals from Salazar in the period, as he knocked in a 27-yard effort later on in the third quarter.

The Miners pulled themselves to within a touchdown on a 71-yard touchdown pass from Showers to Leslie on their next possession.

Green made it a two-score game once again with a two-yard touchdown run early in the final quarter.

Tulsa had 430 yards of total offense as opposed to 388 by the Miners despite running 14 fewer plays.
