Stephan Lewis
Lewis set a prolific pace early-on for the Wildcats, rushing for 248 yards and five touchdowns in a season-opening win against Hampton. Several amazing efforts would follow, including a 214-yard, three-touchdown day against in-state rival Dartmouth and a 258-yard, three-score game against UMass three weeks later. Though UNH would finish just 4-7, Lewis showed promise as an all-purpose threat, excelling in the rushing (1,390 yards, 14 TD), receiving (54 catches, 5 TD) and kickoff return (20 returns, 23.5 avg.) categories, and was a finalist for the 2001 Payton Award. Though New Hampshire might have a difficult time climbing a crowded A-10 ladder this season, Lewis is expected to remain "the show" for Sean McDonnell?s club.

Richmond head coach Jim Reid on Lewis, "Some guys cut a little bit, they have to put a little bit of weight on the outside of their foot. But he cuts on the proverbial dime. He can dominate a game, he slashes, he gets the ball on the zone play and counter play and he disappears into a crowd behind all those big lineman and explodes out the other end. He?s just a great talent."
