NCAA Game Summary - Iowa State at Oklahoma

(Saturday, November 16th)

Final Score: (22) Oklahoma 48, Iowa State 10

Norman, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Damien Williams carried the ball 10 times for 128 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 22 Oklahoma to a 48-10 victory over Iowa State and help the Sooners remain undefeated at home this season.

Trevor Knight carried the ball 10 times for 123 yards and a touchdown, Brennan Clay carried the ball seven times for 87 yards and a touchdown also for the Sooners (8-2, 5-2 Big 12), who are coming off a big conference loss to Baylor, 41-12.

"It's important. It's always for them to leave like that in their last game here and have those kinds of memories. I'm pleased that they were able to do that." said Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops about how important it was for the seniors to go out with a win at home.

Sam Richardson ran three times for 11 yards and scored the lone touchdown for the Cyclones (1-9, 0-7), who have now lost seven straight.

The first quarter only saw five possessions between both teams and each team was scoreless after one.

As the second quarter began Iowa State was in the midst of a 14-play 69-yard drive. The Cyclones opened up the scoring three plays into the quarter with a Richardson 4-yard scramble to the right side.

On the next drive Oklahoma lost their starting quarterback Blake Bell to an undisclosed injury. Following the injury, the Sooners took their time to respond by driving 15 plays for 70 yards down to the Cyclone 5-yard line. Iowa State's defense stepped up and held the Sooners to a 22-yard field goal.

"We'll see. I'm not going to say anything here, a half hour after the game," said Stoops when asked about the status of Bell and the quarterback situation "We'll look at what we feel is the best way moving forward."

Iowa State came right back with a 29-yard field goal of their own. After a 22- yard run that ended with a 15-yard face mask penalty, the Cyclones got down to the 15-yard line of the Sooners.

Iowa State went three-and-out on its next possession. After a 45-yard punt, Jalen Saunders returned the kick 91 yards for a touchdown to make the score 10-10 going into halftime.

Oklahoma wasted no time coming out of the locker room and on the second play from scrimmage Williams took the ball 69 yards for the score to give Oklahoma its first lead of the game, 17-10.

"All I did was run. Mostly that was the line, they got every guy they were supposed to get and all I had to do was get one guy to miss," said Williams about his long touchdown run "After that, it was my speed getting me to the endzone."

The Sooners again capitalized on their next drive but this time with a 32-yard field goal instead of a touchdown. Oklahoma drove 52 yards on 12 plays to get the score.

The Cyclone offense continued to struggle as the Sooners offense was beginning to roll. With just under six minutes to play in the third quarter Brennan Clay carried the ball 63 yards for the Oklahoma touchdown.

Oklahoma continued the barrage of points with another long run when Knight took the ball 56 yards for the touchdown to make the score 34-10.

On their next possession, the Sooners added more points to the board. On 4th- and-1 from the Cyclone 19-yard line, Williams ran the ball off tackle left to find the end zone.

The Cyclone defense still couldn't stop Oklahoma and on another successive possession the Sooners scored points. Kendal Thompson found Aaron Ripkowski for a 3-yard touchdown pass, which brought the score to 48-10 with just under four minutes remaining.

Iowa State attempted a last ditch effort to put points up in what would be its final drive of the game. Grant Rohach dropped back to throw on the Oklahoma 23-yard line but was intercepted by Dakota Austin to seal the victory.
