NCAA Game Summary - Oregon State at California

(Saturday, October 19)

Final Score: Oregon State 49, California 17

Berkeley, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Sean Mannion amassed 493 yards and four touchdowns as the Oregon State Beavers coasted to a 49-17 rout of the California Golden Bears in a Pac-12 matchup at Memorial Stadium.

Mannion completed 36-of-46 pass attempts and had a streak of 21-straight completions for Oregon State (6-1, 4-0 Pac-12) as it became bowl eligible with its sixth consecutive victory since falling to FCS foe Eastern Washington in its season opener. Brandin Cooks made 13 catches for a career-high 232 yards and one touchdown. Storm Woods also got into the mix with six catches for 63 yards and a score. Terron Ward rushed for 40 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 10 attempts in the win.

Jared Goff completed 21-of-31 pass attempts for 220 yards and was intercepted once after starting under center for California (1-6, 0-4). Zach Kline came off the bench to hit on 11-of-16 attempts for 71 yards with two touchdowns to one interception. Chris Harper made six catches for 90 yards while Richard Rodgers also had six receptions for 68 yards. The loss was the fourth in a row for the Golden Bears, who have not won a Pac-12 game since Oct. 13, 2012 when they defeated Washington State.

The Beavers began their dominance in the first frame as Ward capped off a seven play, 91-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run just over seven minutes after the opening kickoff.

Cal responded quickly with a five-play, 53-yard drive before settling for a 22-yard field goal by Vincenzo D'Amato.

Oregon State's defense made a big play in the early stages as Scott Crichton sacked Goff and jarred the ball loose. The Beavers recovered the ball in the Golden Bears' red zone and two plays later Mannion completed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Smith.

The Beavers added a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter to put it out of reach early. Cooks scored on a 14-yard rushing touchdown before he making some shifty moves en route to the end zone on a 34-yard pass from Mannion. Cooks's back-to-back touchdowns sent the Beavers into the intermission with a sizeable, 35-3 edge on the scoreboard.

OSU added to its lead after receiving the ball to start the second half. The Beavers moved the ball 47 yards on seven plays before Mannion threw a 28-yard strike to Woods for a touchdown.

Goff was sacked and fumbled on the Golden Bears' first possession of the third quarter. After a personal foul cost OSU 15 yards, Puka Lopa sacked Mannion to take the Beavers out of field goal range. Kline took over under center for Cal as it started its next drive on its own 12-yard line and gave the hosts a spark. The Golden Bears found their rhythm and drove 80 yards before Kline completed an eight-yard touchdown pass to Darren Ervin to make it 35-10.

The Beavers did not let Cal's momentum slow down their offense. Mannion connected with Crooks three times for 36 yards before he found a wide-open Richard Mullaney for a 15-yard touchdown pass with only 50 seconds remaining in the third period.

Khalfani Muhammad gave the Golden Bears excellent starting position for their next drive as he used his speed to gain 52 yards on the ensuing kickoff. Kline and the offense could not take advantage though, as Cal was stopped on fourth down and turned the ball back over the OSU.

The Beavers tacked on another touchdown in the fourth frame as Ward scored on a two-yard touchdown run. Cal also scored another touchdown as Kline completed a one-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Wark.

OSU finished with a sizeable, 569-365, edge in total yards of offense despite gaining only 74 yards on the ground.
