College Park, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Brandon Ross tallied 169 total yards and scored two touchdowns as the Maryland Terrapins held off the Virginia Cavaliers, 27-26, in an Atlantic Coast Conference showdown at Byrd Stadium.

Ross rushed for 88 yards and added three receptions for 81 yards for Maryland (5-1, 1-1 ACC), which bounced back from last week's blowout loss to Florida State. Caleb Rowe was outstanding under center, completing 18-of-34 passes for a career-high 332 yards and a touchdown filling in for injured starter C.J. Brown. Deon Long (98 yards) and Stefon Diggs (96 yards) were both reliable targets for Rowe in the passing game.

For Virginia (2-4, 0-2), which had an opportunity to win the game in the waning seconds but missed a field goal attempt, David Watford was 27-of-44 for 263 yards and a score. Kevin Parks had 112 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries for his second straight 100-yard performance. Jake McGee caught Watford's touchdown and finished with eight receptions for 114 yards.

Alec Vozenilek connected on a 28-yard field goal at the 8:53 mark of the first quarter to give Virginia an early lead. Vozenilek added another short field goal (18 yards) later in the first quarter after the Cavaliers twice failed to punch it in from the one-yard line.

Maryland responded by scoring a touchdown just 1:10 later on a one-yard scoring plunge by Ross. The short touchdown was set up earlier in the drive when Rowe connected with Ross on a 77-yard pass play.

Ross continue his destruction midway through the second quarter, rushing in a seven-yard score to extend the Terps' lead.

The Cavaliers retaliated by scoring 10 unanswered points to close out the second quarter. Watford capped off an 81-yard drive with a four-yard touchdown pass to McGee with 4:33 remaining, then Vozenilek made a 27-yard field goal in the final minute to put Virginia up 16-14 heading into the break.

The Terps surged ahead by one on the first drive of the second quarter following a 36-yard field goal by Brad Craddock. Craddock added another field goal (32 yards) later in the frame.

Virginia regained the advantage early in the fourth quarter by capping off an 11-play, 74-yard drive with a six-yard touchdown rush by Parks.

The Cavaliers extended their lead with 7:11 left in the fourth quarter following a 26-yard field goal by Vozenilek, but Maryland answered less than two minutes later when Rowe finished off a six-play, 69-yard drive with a 12- yard touchdown pass to Dave Stinebaugh to put the Terps up one.

Virginia began its final drive on its own 17-yard line with just 2:34 left and managed to work the ball all the way to Maryland's 25-yard line to set up a game-winning field goal try by Vozenilek, but his 42-yard attempt was wide right. It was his only miss of the day and his first miss of the year in seven tries.

It was a sloppy win for Maryland, which had less than 23 minutes of possession, lost three fumbles and went 4-of-12 on third down.
